What is a good compression test for the KA24DE?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I'm looking at a car right now, and I know the compression test results, they are the same across each cylinder, but I was wondering what the numbers should be, and what would be the problem if they are too high or low...

btw each cylinder reads 140...

140 sounds right if the car was cold

I'm doing a compression check in a few weeks. What should the numbers be?? And how would i know if there good enough to handle a turbo??

just curious, if one were to not disconnect the fuel pump fuse, and do the compression check while injecting gas in the cylinders, how would the compression change?

I believe it should be close to..umm 170 or 180..

Sideshowbob -

KADE #s should be 179psi "standard", 151psi "minimum", no more than 14psi diffeence across all 4 cylinders.

Warm motor, throttle held wide open, fuel pump disconnected, good battery, minimum 300rpm.

ftrs13 -

It "washes" the oil off the cylinders and causes progressively worse readings as you go down the line...i.e. #1 may seem OK, but #2 will read lower, #3 even lower, etc...typically.

You can't gain any info from a comression test if it was performed impoperly..you have to repeat the test to know anything.
