no. if you can fit a 12 but you cant fit a large enough box do not get a 12(unless you compensate with more power...but this only works to some extent. you will also lose a lot of the low end bass, around 35hz down if ported. sealed with still play kinda low). you will get better results from a 10 in a good box size with adequite port area/volume , or if just a sealed box, adequite internal volume. this is assuming you use the same 10 and 12" driversPoorManQ45 wrote:i feel that in about the same space you can fit a 12. a 12 has about 33 percent more surface area.
so, if you can physically fit a 12 you should try to use one.
also, please dont try to say that 10s are "faster". this has been disproved before.
I found out that when building a sound system, it not how much money you spend it is where you spend it. Some of the subs mentioned in this thread look good on paper, but may not have the sound quality or endurance needed for you needs. Case in point: I brought a set of 10" Kicker Comp VRs in 2000, after four years of abuse I blew one. I since replace them with 10" MTX 7500 series. They may be pricy for some, but I know I will get my monies worth years from now. The same hold true for the amp that you use to run them.tristatesentra wrote:im looking to complete my subwoofer project sometime in the near future. I have the subbox for 10 inch size subs. could anyone lend me an insight on which brands are good I was looking at rockford since the sentra has the rockford subs in the SE-R and special edition 1.8S. I just have the standard 1.8S model let me know whats good!!!
im not really up on the audio thing Its still undecided though I might even sell the box I might just work on looks as of now we'll see what happenscoolhand wrote:

As for the 10's vs 12's, 12's are better for producing bass than 10's. surface area does make a difference with subs. You can produce more bass with 4 12's than with 2 15's. Now 10's are cheaper that 12's so if you pick a good set of 10's with the good amp behind it, the difference in sound will be small.
Excellent questions. Add to it other previously mentioned questions of amp size and music genre's, and the OP will be well on his way to a good affordable replacement.the converted wrote:is the box sealed ported or bandpass? What kind of volume does it have?
18's FTW! Err, wait, what? I think i've been spending too much time in the home audio forums.PoorManQ45 wrote:10s suck. LOL
