I think you mean a connecting rod which attaches to the crankshaft and the piston. If you blow one your engine will be letting you know in no uncertain terms. You will not be happy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecting_rod

from the article: "Failure of a connecting rod is one of the most common causes of catastrophic engine failure."

I'd need to know the context in which the term was used... It's not a correct term to my knowledge.

Tell us more about what's going on.

Hey man, I haven't caught you on msn. Let me know when you have some time. Next weekend would be good for me.

Is your engine knocking like crazy or something?

No, he doesn't mean a connecting rod, he MEANS a compression rod.

A compression rod is part of the front suspension on the G35.

I would call it a control rod, but for some reason, Nissan calls it a compression rod.

I know, mine went and had to be replaced at 35,000 km. and now they are going again at 60,000 km.

It took the dealer five (5) times to fix it.

Here is my story:

The car was creaking when it was being turned from a level surface onto an upgrade, say like a ramp leading to a driveway.

I complained about a front end creak. The dealer investigated and told me that they had fixed the problem, don't remember what they said they did.

As I was driving home - creak creak creak.

Ok, it happens.

Back to the dealer a few days later - blah blah blah.

Came to pick up the car and they said to me, "it wasn't the front end, it was the rear end"

Whatever I figure, sure sounded like the front end to me.

"Well, you had us looking at the front end, it was the rear end", he smirks.

Well, as I'm driving home - creak creak creak.

I just felt my blood pressure going through the roof.

I called him the next day, "tell me something, did you even look at the car? Did you even bring it in the shop? "

"Yeah, yeah, bring it back, we'll take another look." he says

Fine, I bring it back. This time I meet with the service dude and take him for a spin around the dealership area in Mississauga. I know exactly what I have to do to get the car to creak.

Sure enough, it creaks.

I say to him, "Did you hear that?"

"Yeah, I heard it he says"

"Ok", I say, "let's do it again, just to make sure"

So I take him through it again.

Creak creak creak.

"Did you hear that?" I ask being a bit of a smart A.

"Yeah, yeah, I heard it already"

Back to the shop.

Pick the car up at the end of the day......

"Well, it's your compression rods" they say. We had to order the parts, so you will have to bring it back.

Sigh.....

They never call me.

I call them 2 weeks later, "oh yeah, uhhh, yeah, lemme see, uh, the parts aren't here yet, it'll be another couple of days"

"Did you even order the parts?" I ask.

"sure sure, we ordered the parts"

"Whatever" I say, "let's make an appointment now"

A few days later, I take it back to the shop. At the end of the day, I go to pick it up and he says to me, "I've got good news and bad news"

"Good news is, it's definitely your compression rods, bad news is is that we only had parts for the left side, and it needs the right side too"

"Why the F didn't you order both?" I steam

"Well, we thought it was just the left side, but good news, we did your brakes for free on the front for all your pain and suffering"

sigh......

Back the fifth time and they finally fixed it.

Yeah.

Well, now it's starting to do it again.

The mechanic who worked on the car stated that the compression rods are a substandard design and he has had the conversation with infiniti. The problem is that they keep putting on the same rods, the same problem will happen again.

Compression rods, to know them is to hear them.

Creak creak creak....

Yeah, it's the dealer where I bought the car.

The sales experience was fine at the dealer - very straight forward, no BS, no pressure. I like the guy who sold me the car.

The service experience has been less than desireable however.

THAT'S TOO FUNNY.

A fellow Canuck with experience with the Dixie meister.

I didn't want to mention names, but yes, that's them.

They are TERRIBLE

I have nothing but bad things to say about their service dept. The sales guy was cool, I liked him. But their service is THE WORST. And that stupid little cramped dealership.

They are very convienient for me because my office is right there at Eglinton and Commerce.

All they ever try to do is sell you on those idiotic service packages that you don't need. Some of which run 400 bucks to inspect this and that.

But that's another story....

before you blame the tech, understand that the person that goes between you and them, the service advisor, ususally knows nothing and thinks they know everything.

dont always blame it on the tech.

you could tell the advisor that you hear a creak, the advisor will right it up and a clunk from the roof.

i wouldnt believe it if i didnt have to deal with it everyday.

Absolutely true.

I don't blame the mechanic, I do blame the service managers.

I ended up meeting with the mechanic at one point and he was a pretty good guy.

The best solution was taking the guy out for a spin to demonstrate.
