Actually those are secondary butterflies, the primary butterfly is the throttle body plate

From my understanding, they are angled at low rpm then open wide at higher rpms, it has to do with accelerating the air into the engine at low rpms to produce more torque

on a hot day with A/C i can feel them open up around 4K

ok bringing this out of the dead but im about to put an s13 motor in my s14 cause i blew my rod bearing, and im using the s14 distributor, exhaust mani, but leaving the s13 intake..

now the secondary butterflies, am i going to be able to hook their vacuum up and do they even have a vacuum port somewhere that has to be hooked up? or is it part of the motor (hopefully not unplugged by previous owner then)

tnxMarko

The secondary butterflies are pulled closed by vacuum. If their control pot vacuum line was disconnected they would stay open all the time.
