Thinking about buying an intake for my 96 max so I'm wondering what everyone is using.

Injen. I used to have a Frankencar intake, but I like the Injen better.

wow...great minds think alike! i too also have an injen. i used to have the frankencar midpipe (short ram air type intake) but i like the injen much better! its kinda $$ pricey $$ but i would recommend it, and if i had to do it over again...i would!

Cosmo Racing, place out of Canada. I couldn't justify spending the $240 on an Injen. $65+ shipping

stock so far, but i wanna get this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

K&N filter is a plus, and it's really cheap.I bought a very similar intake from the same seller for my v6 Sonata and I'm very satisfied with it

I dont believe in spending over $200 for a filter and a piece of bent pipe.

just my 2 cents

EDIT: bought it, and I'm satisfied with it. A bit louder over 3000rpm, makes kind of a whistling sound, but definitely a bargain.

thats essentially the same thing as the frankencar intake. i used the injen filter with my injen intake, but have since swapped it for a k&n filter. i personally like this combo best so far out of what i have tried. just my $0.02!

I won't use a K & N anyways, too many concerns for MAF failure. Go with an AEM dryflow. Filters out more than the K & N and no oil issues, all for the same price!

Any of the intakes are going to give you a great "growl" at wide open throttle. The Injen sits about at the bottom of the radiator, but it is protected from water intrusion from the splash guards on the underside of the front bumper. If you live in a particularly rainy area, or just want to be safe; you can install an AEM bypass to protect from hydro lock.

I have a large K&N CAI and wow the thing is loud. I would say getting the bigger the better for sound. imo...

I also don't believe it a large pipe going into the bumper but it is a good idea to get cold air in instead of warm air like mine is.

Also, jltibbs what kind of rims are those and where did you get them? thanks

I was running K&N but didn't like it so I sold it and went with Injen (black). I ordered mine from 2kracing.com it cost $250 and free shipping. It is cheaper for the polished. It does cost more for the name but you feel and the notice the power at 4+ rpm. The whistle sound is unmatched...worth every penny.

Strange that I came across this old post in the middle of inquiring about a Cosmoracing intake.

I've been e-mailing these guys for about a week now, as I live in Canada, and can get a pretty good deal on shipping. Beancooker, are you running their SRI or their CAI? How do you like their intakes, nice sound and performance?

Also I've been speaking with Lynn at Warpspeed Performance regarding their aluminized Y-Pipes. They have had some shipping issues to Canada as the postal service now only allows 42" packages, to cross the border, and the Y-pipe shipping packages are 48" long. Have you scoped out anyone in Canada turning out decent y-pipes?

They're the same. CosmoRacing happens to deal on ebay as well as from their website and warehouse in Montreal, QC.

I personally think all intakes are the same.. your actually just paying for the pretty tubing and a filter. I say, make your own and just buy the filter.

All you need is some PVC piping, a can of flat or gloss spray paint, and a good sense of painting.. and you got an intake for under 50.00, which includes the filter.Another cool thing about PVC is that it makes your intake sound a lot meaner/louder!This is my set-up: I really didnt pay anything for the tubing, the filter is about three years old, and I already had a can of spray paint... decal was 5.00---- total: $5.00

And this will be my new intake/MAF...just needs a couple of coats of paint 3 inches straight tubing

^Ghetto^ Better be ready to tune with that setup. Should be a nice bump in timing too.

I'm running an ebay midpipe with pop-charger and K&N. Will probably convert to MAP based later this year

Ghetto, but it looks professional, and I spend about 75% less than most people do on intakes.. and of course i'm gonna have to tune it... thats why I have the VAFC II (<-j/k) didnt you read what I put on the other thread!?With the 3.5 swap, I definately need this MAF and the tuning.Doing this set-up will actually

I got the WAI, and was not happy with it, so I converted it to the SRI. Works okay, but if I could go back, I'd get the Frankencar with Apexi filter.

Injen CAI all the way! At low rpm, whistle is amazing, then every rpm after 3100 is a friggin scream. WOT in tunnels and underpasses is crazy! My buddies wanna hear that thing scream all the time and the mid-range power you get from it is unsurpassed. Worth the dough

Yeah, I was looking into the Place Racing intake, but Injen's customer service and quality reputation was so good that I had to go with it and I could not be happier. Oh and for those of you who are worried about hydro lock, there would have to be at least 1-2 liters of water sucked into the engine for that to happen. That would only happen if you completely submerged the tip of the intake and since it sits higher than the height of the bumper, you won't have to worry about that unless you plan on going through puddles deeper than the height of your front bumper!

Is it pretty hard to put in the INJEN CAI? Don't you have to move the battery? and like reconfigure some wires and find a place to mount them?

i understand that. like i mentioned before, i had the injen for 2 and a half years. truth be known, the injen is only a long ram intake (how you like that one noah?!?). it goes to a lower part of the engine bay which is not much cooler than where the short ram would sit. the cattman physically goes into the fender, completely free from the heat of the engine. IMO, the performance difference is very noticeable.

but that aside, injoy your injen.

OMFG, the truth comes out!!!

So you finally got the Cattman/Place Racing intake? You really need to start taking pics and writing install articles! That would be awesome. Hit me up on AIM tonight.

No need to move anything for an Injen. Here is the instructions for a 5th-gen (should be similar to 4th gens as well): http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=157916

The diff between a Injen "snorkle" and short-ram is where hp comes into play. The Injen seems to increase low-end hp while a short-ram is better for mid-range power.
