Hi guys, I have an 89 240sx and a worthless chilton's manual. I am looking for the adjusting screw on the IAC Motor, but can't find the IAC! I searched the threads and found a pic for an IAC on a different motor and it looks alot like the thing that is attached close to the throttle body. However, another post said that the IAC motor is on the back of the intake towards the bottom. Anyone have a clue or a pic?

Thanks,

Adam

It's at the back of the intake manifold. It's surrounded by that brass-like colored part that's got some male hose parts attached to it. You'll see a big screw there. Adjust there.

Its me again margeret. Ok, I've found the IAC screw and I disconnected the TPS. I turn the screw clockwise and nothing changes with the motor. I tried screwing it in a bit, shutting off the motor, plugging the tps back in and nothing. Ive tried screwing it in all the way and out all the way. i pulled the IAC unit off, took it apart, cleaned it and re-installed. Still nothing. What's up?

Thanx

Ok how it works is it takes air from the intake tube bypassing the throttle plate. It needs this air to run. Once the car is at full operating temp that is the only source of air at idle. If you have the tps unplugged that screw has absolute control of all air getting into the engine. Now if you screw it all the way in and the engine is still idling that means it is getting air from somewhere else. These places can be any number of sources. If the Aux air reg does not close after the car warms up that could be one place. To determine if thats it , while the car is idling pinch off the 1 inch hose going under the intake manifold at the front. This hose is coming off the intake tube. If the car now dies the aux air regulator is stuck open. NOTE the car MUST be at full operating temp when doing this or even adjusting the idle as you were.

If that was not your problem then you may have a vaccum leak somewhere.

i'm having the same problem and i did everything.

but are you saying the car needs to be a full operating temp to adjust the screw??? ughh well if so how am i gonna do if that if i can't even keep it running for more than 5 second.. sit there and just hold the rev's up that'll take forever and be a waste of time and besided i can't even sit there and hold my rpm's up cuz it just stalls out faster as soon as i get on the gas.

i have been posting everywhere about this i need the help really bad.

does anyone live near to Reading,PA 19606 to come help me out?
