Q45tech,

I have purchased a bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol containing 640mL/L.

The brand is 'ISOCOL' - rubbing alcohol antiseptic - Anti Bacterial Lotion.

Is this the right one, as I am not sure what you are refering to when you mention to read the label as some forms a dry gas.

There is no mention of this on the label.

Are there any negatives/downsides to using this in the Aquamist instead of the water?

Regards

Chally,

Got myself some 'topshelf' isopropyl alchohol which is 99.9 % pure.

This brand was actually the one used in the recent aviation fuel scare, to wash out fuel lines ect. Thought this might be of interest to you.

My question to all is - What is the technical reason that I need to dilute the isopropyl alcohol with distilled water on a 1:1 ratio (50/50) when using it in my Aquamist?

I would like to know why I am doing this, rather than just doing it if you know what I mean.

Any thoughts on the quality and ratio mix with water I should be using.

The alcohol is there to keep the water from freezing. One must study the latent heat of vaporization of water to understand the number of BTU it removes.Gasoline vaporizes easily so it cools badly vs water and the only reason you run extra rich in supercharging is to cool the components before the spark so you run less advance due to the thicker fuel mixture.............counter productive.

10% properly vaporized WATER and staying in suspension until passing the injectors by volume [compared to the volume of gasoline] probably means you can run 15-20% leaner of gasoline at WOT.

Anything more than 12.5 AF [gasoline] is a waste and after cooling just blows out the exhaust.

All the alcohols are low [20-25%] in BTU vs gasoline and require a seriously rich mixture to burn because they are already half burned [thus the O in chemical formula] CH3OH, C2H5OH, C3H7OH
