He made this post over on another forum... but I thought I'd share...

Original Thread @ TT.Net

##########################do you notice anything missing?

culprit: JWT Sport 500's

wait, another shot from the top

still don't get it? have a look at the stock turbo that came off

apparently, those little bolts are rather key if you're one of those guys that doesn't like the sound of a massive exhaust leak... who knew?

i wish we had taken notice of 3 of the 4, yes 75%, of the bolts that secure the exhaust housing missing before the motor went in. god was it fun putting the ones we could in after the fact. you'd think that the bottom one would be the easiest to get to, being that all you have to do is move the water line out of the way and you have perfect line of sight, and can actually touch the nut w/ both hands. Not easy. a real pain actually. basically, the only nut that was in was located on at about the middle of the turbo, on the inside by the block. That leaves the bottom, very top, and the one right next to the frame missing. After an hour or 2, the one on by the frame and one on the bottom were in, and the top one seems quite impossible to install with the tools we had. It did seem to all together stop the exhaust leak, but I still can't figure out how this turbo was able to leave house missing 3 of 4 exhaust housing bolts. At least we know from now on to check over the turbos before installing a motor.

but, here's the rest of the pictures from Saturday

the garage where we would spend the entire day

the victim. freshly painted engine bay, been sitting for ~2 years, ready for a better heart.

the motor

dropping it in

was such a bad hairday for me [f s t caz]

lol

that last one and this one are of Jon [KaZ (VaBch)] working on that lower left FPR clamp, you know, the one that just barely fits between the plenum and #4 injector?

then we started it, and heard the exhaust leak. i was scared it was going to be a loose/cracked manifold, but the manifold was never touched, so it had to be turbo related. then we found the 3 vacant holes, and worked on that for a good long while.

after we got the turbo bolted together, and everything otherwise back together

am i allowed to post that picture even though its not my car? oh well

ever seen customized z seat covers as such?

thats the new prototype newspaper hood. Even lighter than CF, and it serves as reading material when you get bored.

########################

and since i'm posting all these pictures, here's my project. Just got it back the other night from having the firewall welded

test fit

why? having all the parts, spare time, and the slightest desire to do something "different"

########################

We drove 3 hours (168 miles) down to Wilson, NC to help this Z's owner finish up 2 years worth of work. Guy bought the Z 2 years ago, drove it for maybe 2 weeks and pulled the motor because it had a blown/smoking turbo. He's been saving/buying parts/putting it together for 2 years. He works for Cummins Desiel as a Mechanical Engineering Technician, building tools and such for them... had all sorts of neat stuff... high pressure vacuum lines, TClamps, fuel line, etc... high quality Desiel stuff.

We spent 15 hours working on that car... started on it around 9:30 am (work up at 8 am after driving down the night before and getting there about 11:30 pm). Worked until 2:00 am Sunday morning, packed up the car and drove home... [f s t caz] drove on the trip home... kept ourselves awake watching the Blue Collar Comedy Tour on his laptop... laughed the whole way home. Worst thing about the whole experience was I woke up Saturday morning with a bad Sinus cold that I'd brought with me...

Not a bad way to make some vacation money though. [f s t caz] owed me some money for a turbo and some other nicknacks, so he was more or less working off his debt to me, which worked out fairly well...

Guy standing behind me on the left side of the car in the 7th picture has a Z32 NA he talked to me about coming back and converting to a TT for him at the end of the summer... hopefully that will work out.

[f s t caz] also got his engine bay sprayed last night... looks awesome... hopefully he'll post some photos of it later in the week. Hopefully his S13 will turn out pretty good... we'll see. :)
