Post

Just covered a lot of ground recently so I thought I'd share. This entire post is typed on my iPhone, so bear with me :chuckle: Well, during my time of Z ownership I've had to learn many things the hard way. More on that later.

After 5 years of ownership, I sold my 1997 Prelude to more comfortably support the purchase of my first home. I bought it as a salvage with damage to the front end and eventually fixed it up to this point prior to selling: Image I had a lot of fun with it. I replaced a lot of parts and learn many things along the way.

My house has been keeping me very busy but it's been very rewarding. Perhaps most rewarding of all (as corny as it sounds) is the Z's new home. Took months to find time to get everything how I wanted it, but here's the garage as of now: Image it's far from "perfect" in my eyes, but I'm happy with it for now. The bench and shelf were made by me, and were really my first experience with woodworking. It's so gratifying to build a functional piece exactly to your liking (and cheaper on the wallet too!)

And now, a quick recess for a game of "I spy". If you caught the Z-related item on the bench in the background, kudos to you! For the slower readers (you know who you are :) ) here's a hint: it's a part from what's covered by a garbage bag in the background. Ok, enough teasing: Image
A healthy replacement engine! For those who weren't aware, to put it briefly - I foolishly bought my Z from a c*ck junky dirtbag who lied about the condition of the motor in my Z. Turns out the compression is terrible; hence, replacement engine. I bought it in the same manner as my prelude - shipped from another state with known cosmetic damage but (supposedly) healthy motor. The prelude worked out, the Z didn't. Ya live, ya learn.

Fast forward to today - I finally towed my Z to the new pad. Image
Loading a non-running sports car onto a car trailer without a winch is a pain in the arse to say the least. But we got it done and here it is: Image

I wish this post was a "I finally got my Z running!" post, but that'll come later I suppose. It's been a long journey up to this point and I've gained lots of knowledge along the way. Now here is my current thought process: that fugly body kit is molded onto the body panels and the paint needs attention. The front end also needs some work on a frame-rack. Rather than dump a bunch of money into this car, I'm 95% sure I want to part it out and use the funds to buy a clean rolling chassis to put my motor and trans in. Thoughts?

Also, I have a general idea on what most parts are worth, but what is a good source to use as a benchmark for used part prices? I will be making a post in the classies once I get that figured out and plotted in a spreadsheet. Thanks for reading!

towing a non-running car definitely sucks, been there, done that.

Nice work on the garage, PLENTY of space to work, congrats!

Digging the garage!

What else you got left to do to the Z?

Also whats above the garage? Attic/storage space? Does the top of the garage connect to the rest of the house?

Thanks! How's your new place coming along?

Well, I'm pretty sure I want to part out this one and use the funds to buy a rolling chassis in better condition. There's a couple rolling shells near-ish to me in great condition, just not my first color choices unfortunately.

And yea, it's a loft for extra storage (Z parts)
It's not all that picture-worthy (yet), otherwise I'd snap a pic for ya.

Very nice!

Take a pic of loft when you clean it up.

Is the loft already insulated?

alright, I'll take a pic when I get home tonight. Nope, all the walls are insulated on ground level but the loft isn't at all. I may insulate it and even turn it into a little hang-out area when the Z gets finished but for now my money's going towards Z goodies and a clean rolling chassis :gapteeth:

This is what I was going to suggest!

Don't forget about the picture.

woops, don't know how I missed this. I will snap a quick pic for ya when I get the chance.

Does anyone know what this module is for? Image

It was located next to the ecu. note the 3 mounting tabs and 2 connector ports. I need to figure out what to price this at for my part-out. Speaking of which - anyone with experience parting out ANYTHING want to give me some insight? I have turned down many offers on parts because I feel that they were WAY below comparable prices, but I really don't know for certain. Example: fpcu (fuel pump control module) is available new from COZ or Z1 for ~$345. I'm asking $150 since mine is obviously used but working condition (more than fair I'd say). Someone offered me $50 shipped. Basically I want to know if there's a good resource for what used parts are valued at generally.

That module ^ looks like the powersteering control module but it could possibly be the module for the seatbelts. I'm not 100% sure. If you type all the numbers off of it I could probably tell you what it is.

For used parts a decent formula on calculating the value is %20-50 of the new OEM value. Naturally there are many variables involved like demand, interchange ect. I think $150 for the FPCM is a fair price but then again I still have mine out of my parts car but I'm also not really trying to push the sale of it.

Cool thanks Mark, that def helps. Just want to be fair with my asking price but also don't want to be screwed over. Also regarding that fpcu - the early ones apparently fail somewhat frequently according to some sites due to cheap/flimsy components and metal-on-metal mounting/vibration over time. So in other words, I wouldn't mind keeping it as a backup if I don't get a fair price for it.

The stamped numbers on the "mystery module" are: 2850533P00 and below it, it's stamped: 9X09. I did a quick search - the results were somewhat unclear but it appears to be the module that controls several functions: MAF, ABS, etc and the price for a new one is $395! I wonder if anyone would ever need to buy one of these though.

No problem man I'm guessing you found it laying down not hooked up? I decoded it in my inventory system and it came up to be the HICAS computer.

The Hicas computer shows to be located on the LH rear pillar..

Since its the HICAS computer its completely useless since most delete HICAS anyway.

Hollander Interchange Notes:

See the part number is exact^

Hope this helps.

dang, that's a big chunk of change for that little module. Nope, both connectors were plugged in when I removed it - still have full factory HICAS in my car. but the weird thing is - it was located on the RH rear pillar - under the wooden floorboard where the ecu is. Maybe it's saying that for JDM/RHD models? :gotme

No because the front pillar (by the ecu) is called the "A" pillar. "A" pillar = Front pillar = infront of the seats.

The rear pillar is the "B" pillar - behind the seats.

For some reason the picture won't load for me just incase it doesn't for you here is a direct link.

Maybe they pulled them for some reason and didn't put them back in the right spot? :gotme

The one thats behind the seats should be this part number: 2850033P10 or 2850043P10 - it depends on the production month.

Maybe my inventory system is wrong on the location of these parts lol?? :gotme

oh my bad - I meant it was under the passenger wooden floorboard on the passenger's side under the A pillar (where the ECU goes).

almost done stripping the interior, then I'll be pulling the motor for a guy interested in my turbos.

Crappy pic, I know, but it was like 1am :rotflmao

In other news, I'm looking for a clean rolling chassis - no body work needed to it. The one I had my eye on got sold :frown:

Nope that's where mine was too. The little connector controls power steering. So unless you want Popeye forearms, I'd suggest keeping the little connector hooked up :chuckle:

^good info! so the module controls HICAS as well as p/s? I doubt I'll ever be able to find a buyer for it though.
