Passed a salt truck that had slid off the road in the intense snow storm we just had. I gave him a friendly toot as i went on by. Guess I will add snowplow to the many abilities of my new Versa

Did you offer any assistance? Regardless of what kind of vehicle has slid off the road, or who the driver might be, there is no such thing as a "friendly" honk. What if the guy had a heart attack? equipment malfunction? What if some jerk stopped in front of him, causing him to force himself off the road to avoid a deadly collision. Do you not have any respect for the men and women who clear the roads so you can drive safely to work and back? I see you're new here. We don't appreciate that kind of disrespect here. Welcome to the forum, I'm not trying to be a douche, but please, don't laugh at the misfortune of others.

Did you wake up with some sand in your vag today or something. I didnt say he was upside down on fire. Sheesh, He was standing next to the truck talking on his cell phone. But your right, maybe next time i'll just break out my tow strap and haul his big *** out of there. Its not that good of a car.

Yesterday I had slammed on the honker as I was careening towards a school yard full of children as they screamed for help, all I heard was the sound of my new air horn. lol...

there seems to be an unfriendly tone in a lot of the threads these days.

I hope its just that its the end of January and we still have to endure a coupla more months of winter . . . and that things will be less cantankerous in days ahead.

I think it's mainly to do with people not wanting to put up with certain posts/attitudes.

I saw some guy drop a driveshaft in his F-150 and I pulled over to help. If you see a stranded motorist, you should help. Who knows, oneday you may need someone to extend the same courtesy.

I dunno... I was just helped by a plow truck driver today after sliding back-end first into a snowbank. My CVT transmission REFUSED to engage (wheels wouldn't spin), and this plow truck driver went out of his way to yank my V out and refused to accept any money. Then I come home and read this post. It just struck a nerve... My transmission is fine, once the car was yanked out, everything worked as it should, and there was no damage to the car.

Yestrday I tried my new Lincoln Town Car horn on my V. Some *** stopped in the middle of a single lane road to pick up his great grandmother took about 20 minutes.

You should always pull over and help people you don't know. The world is full of honest and safe people. Don't worry. Trust everyone.

Maybe its because I was born and raised in NY, but I will never pull over to help an unknown person. Call me what you will, and it sucks that I won't. But it is a risk not worth taking for me. If I am able to move and am conscience, I also don't want others to help me. That's why I have AAA. Not that they can't be mass murderers as well, it just makes me feel better!

Just for the record, I have never (and will never) honk at a stranded motorist.

Don't get me wrong, if I'm in an area that I've never been in before or am in the inner city I ain't stopping for ****.

It's just where I'm from, Elizabethtown, PA, we don't have that many threatening individuals. Plus, I usually only roll the window down, with my doors locked and ask if they need help.

ROTFLMAO, this is a great thread, funny as heck. Here on the 10 biggest island in the world, murders are mostly unheard of, deaths are usually caused by accident or old people passing, and you have probably heard that Newfoundlanders are one of the friendliest people on earth, ready to give the shirt off our backs in order to help not only our own, but the world. We proved that on 9/11, although I was stuck at the airport with my military issue C-7 (Modded M-16).

As of leaving people stranded....I never do it. I am a groomer operator now for a few months and I always see people in the country (middle of now where) stranded cause their Ski-doo has overheated or just not working. As an employee I am glad to be of assistance, and a human being I am just glad to be there to help another out. The Snow mobile trails of western Newfoundland are top ranked in Atlantic Canada and man, you get ALOT of machines breaking down. I will be there to help anyone, but I always still have my subconcious saying,"what if he has a pistol?"

A TRUE STORY!!!

Happened in Alberta a number of years ago.

A man stranded on side of the road had trouble with his vehicle. Numerous vehicles drove by not giving a damn about the poor man. Its 40 degrees celcius out and out of cell phone service area. An unexpecting man comes upon the stranded guy and offers to help him out. He does what he can with little knowledge of cars and after several minutes...nothing. The man offered the stranded man a ride to the nearest city and to take him where he needs to go in order to get back on his feet again. The stranded man declined his offer for a taxi service but took his name and address.

After a couple weeks, this helpful man goes to the bank to pay on his Mortgage, Mastercard and personal loans and the teller cannot find his information. Long story short......they were paid off!! "Who has paid off my debt!?!?!" the guy said.....the woman answered "anonymous payer"

Another day or 2 went by and the man being as happy as pig in sheot received a letter...he opened it up and to his surprise, it was the guy who he helped out that days weeks back. Whatever the note said, I dont know, but the name at the end saying thank you for all the effort, Bill Gates.

True story, I dont know who it happened to but apparently its true. You just never know who you are going to pick up.

I was hoping for your sake that it wasn't a kidney stone. Anyway .....

Around here we have a lot of rural roads and some pretty nasty storms.

If someone is stranded out in the middle of no where, you have to stop and at least enquire if they are okay. At our most extreme temps -35 C plus windchill you don't stand much of a chance. I carry a small survival kit (blanket, candle, hotshots, tow strap, shovel, skidoo suit, and some gasline anti-freeze(rum)). Just kidding about the rum. I drive a 06 dodge sprinter dually all over hell's half acre and back and you just never know what you might encounter. I put on just over 100K km last year.

In the cities it's a different story, you have to assess the situation and go with what you feel comfortable with. A van load of thugs, or a bus load of Saskatchewan Roughrider cheerleaders ?[IMG][/IMG]

Cheerleaders looking for help, I might add.

Then again, what if the guy just steals ur car, plus 40 degrees Celcius soungs pretty warm, I would just call 911 or something and get a tow truck out not go around asking a stranger.

As a female, I'd be a lot more nervous than anything about someone stopping to help me. I'm sure there are a few good men out there who just see a lady struggling and wanna help, because obviously, we're helpless when it comes to cars (sarchasm lol), but for the most part I think about all those horror stories of unsuspecting women who get abducted >< I know, rash. But hey, if it was your wife, daughter, or sister, would you be giving her advice to roll down the windows & unlock the door for a stranger? Also, unless it's a medical emergency, I also wouldn't stop to help a man. Ted Bundy I believe it was, would prey on women's pity to get them close enough to his vehicle to abduct them. No thanks!

I have changed a few female's tires on the side of the road. I tell them to stay in their car, doors locked, window up and I'll do the work. That way reduces liability across the board. Only used this method twice but both times the women seemed relieved to be able to stay in the vehicle and out of harms way.
