A Chevy Suburban.

Not by choice... but by will of Ford.

Warm asphalt.

Surprisingly, it did not adhere to the treads. There was some left on the sidewalls though.

It was a warm night in Detroit, so hot that the asphalt was melting. I had to work the late shift and I was beat I was driving south on the i3 and took my eyes off the road for just a moment when I saw an iguana making out with a possom. Damn if it wasn't the craziest thing. When I looked up a Chevy Suburban had pulled over to watch the show and I almost clipped it. It brought back memories of my childhood when we use to play with toy cars. I just managed to avoid hitting a deer and that was the real reason the chevy pulled over. I took the next off ramp thinking that was all for the nights driving when I rounded a corner and right in the middle of the road was a girl in a white wedding dress standing in a drugged stupor. I almost missed hitting her but as luck would have it the left mirror on my V caught her arm. I stopped to help her up when a Caddy pulled up and this big dud yelled at her to slice me with the knife that just came from nowhere. I pushed her into the dud and they both fell slipping on Chinese cooking grease. I got back in my car and finally made it back onto the highway heading for home as dawn was breaking. Just another adventure in my magnetic grey Versa

Well, thanks to the Versa's brakes, I DIDN'T hit a cute little bunny that was hopping parallel to my path and decided to intersect my path. I slammed the brakes and it hopped away

What I meant was I symbolically ran over my childhood... nevermind. I did manage to run over a squirrel, and several years ago, I ran over the family cat (a purebred persian named "Harriett").

Well, I ran over a stupid 'possum. He was running across the road, from right to left, and I swerved right only to have him turn around and run back to the right. I nailed him good.

Speaking of which, I ran over a nail...flattened my tire.

I've hit a couple of birds, but it didn't dent the body or cause paint damage.

I have a feeling that mom doesn't live smack out in the middle of white-tailed deer country, or she'd be extremely grateful it was just a bird! AND, she ought to be grateful the bird wasn't a turkey, as a few of my friends hit turkeys this spring.

Hehehe... When I went to go get new tires for the wifey's truck, I saw a bunch of wheel and tire packages laid out by Discount in their showroom. You can get a lot for a little when they have a sale.

Here goes:

I have hit or ran over:

an Emu (in a Nissan Frontier, funniest thing I have ever hit)a squirrel (in the Versa)several birds (one in the Versa)a dog (he lived)a Saturn (my fault)an Oldsmobile (their fault, and a hit and run, I hit them - they ran)

I have been hit by:

a Deer (while driving 45 mph, she ran into the side of my Nissan P/U)a F-350 dually (totaled the Mazda Protege I was in)a Tacoma (in the Versa, their fault)

No people as of yet, I am trying to keep it that way.

Not in the Versa, but have hit a moose.

Quite a few years ago, I worked as a travelling disc jockey. While travelling in Newfoundland late at night on the way to another small town, we spied a moose trotting down the shoulder of the highway. This is not an unusual occuence there - and we had had many close encounters with moose on the roads before. My buddy slowed the cargo van down and pulled over onto the other side of the deserted highway to give it a wide berth. As we came up beside it, going about 50km/h (30mph), it suddenly darted in front of us to cross the highway. We hit it right in the arse end, came to a halt and watched it scamper off into the woods. Upon checking the damage (rental van BTW) to the front end which consisted of a dented in steel bumper, smashed plastic grill and large divot in the hood, we also found that the moose had lost control of its bowels in the collision and there was moose crap on the front of the vehicle and into the engine compartment, mostly on the rad. It was starting to cook and if there is a more foul smelling substance than moose crap, I don't know what it is. We attemped to scrape off most of it with sticks and pried/hammered at the hood with the tire iron so that it could latch again and got underway again. We still had about an hour's drive left to get to our destination in Gander and the stench coming off the front end got worse as the engine and rad heated up again. We literally spent most of the drive with our heads out the windows like dogs to catch the fresh air in order to keep from gagging. Parked it that night and pressure washed it off in the morning first thing.
