I went to my last job today to pick up my last paycheck and saw this Infiniti J30 they've been working on since before I quit. My old boss just became a used car dealer, so he bought the J30 as one of his first purchases.Well after a used car inspection, the car needed a lot of work. MAF, brakes, 2 tires, and 2 O2 sensors.
After it was done (this was 2 days before I quit), they took it for a test drive and heard this weird noise coming from the rear window area. I asked my boss (whom isn't a mechanic) what type of noise it was. He couldn't answer. I offered to test drive the car myself to diagnose, but he said no (I'm not a mechanic either - but I read Nico all day). Five hours of shop time later, still same problem.
They ran an interesting series of diagnostics which included my boss driving with one of the techs in the trunk banging at the rear deck speaker area. Still no results. The next day and 4 hours of more shop time later, still no result. I had told my boss that if he let me drive then I could probably get an idea of what it is. He declined. As I left from my last day, they were still looking at it.
Fast forward to this week. I go to pick up my check today and see what you'll see in the following pics. Turns out that they thought the "noise" was coming from the rear window. This after they completely disassembled everything from the back seat to the trunk that wasn't metal. My boss decided to take out the rear window HIMSELF instead of having a glass installer do it. Well, he failed as you can see. So now 20 hours of shop time have been spent JUST on this problem.
So today when I came in, I saw the mess and asked him what happened. He told me what I just mentioned above. I asked him again, what type of noise were you hearing? He said a popping and buzzing. I immediately grabbed one of the Bose speakers/amp and hooked it up, turned on the radio LOUD and said "A noise like this???". His response: Mother******!!! It took me 2 minutes to find the problem after they spend 20 hours of shop time. Now they'll spend another $650 or so for a new rear window & moulding. Thank God for Nico!
Guess those paper mat's don't do much good for this situation lol
