What happens when I disconnect the front output?

I am looking into buying a pathfinder to do a motorswap into my hardbody which hasn't ran in years. I'm guessing the motor will fit as nissan has used the cookie cutter method in all of it's vehicles. My main concern, it's a 4wd trans and my truck is 2wd. My friend said that some 4wd trans won't work unless all wheels are connected. What's the case in the pathfinder???

the only difference is the tailhousing. your friend has no idea what he's talking about.
