I was reading some really old posts like a good member should (From 2002+) and I saw that back then this forum was a nice and organized forum, Now we see people only comming here if there Q45 is broken.

Also what happened to the old members eg: ceningolmo, redmanfx....

Not that some of the people that join ar'nt OK, But I have to say that the old Q45 community was better.

That's everywhere Paul. At best, people have 40k cars on here, but they are mostly now bb'd around 10k is my guess. At 10k, you're bound to have more riff raff, tired old vehicles, and people not trying to improve, because they're too busy trying to repair.

At least we still have Maxnix...

Changing demographics. As the car ages and values drop, new owners get younger and poorer, experience and education levels are lower, some cant even spell- hardly the same group that purchased new. Very few new or nearly new purchasers still willing to drive 13-19 year old luxury cars.

Since the 90-93 Q are worth $500-$2,000 at best.Since the 94-96 Q are worth 2,000- $3,000Heck a 1999 Q41 is only worth $5,000 depending on mileage

Remember a car loses half its new MSRP value every 3 years. The race to the $500 junkyard price happens to almost everyone.

At what point does the G50 get recognized by the buying public as a car worth owning. With Infiniti's 20th anniversary coming up I'd like to see the 90-93 Q's recognized as a unique car since it was their first model. How long will it take for the G50s to reach "collector" status?

mass produced 4 door sedans dont reach "collectors" status, they just slowly fade away into the junk yards. Infiniti only accelerates this process by discontinuing offering parts to keep them on the road.

My local dealer doesnt even stock basic maintenance wear and tear items for my 96Q {brake pad shim kit, for example}

Right I think its very sad in that they over engineered the car then when time came for us to replace the parts they start puling the plug.

You can still find parts for older cars (mostly domestics).

I wonder why they stopped making parts, is it because it costs to much to import them or they just really gave up on us?

Shame on Infiniti.

Owners gave up on Infiniti dealers as they refused to spend the $3,000 per year with dealers to make stocking intelligence [techs] and parts in inventory.

A single technican needs 2500 billable hours per year to maintain thats ~400 Q45 per year x 6+ hours. With less than 40,000 90-96 Q on road divided by 125 dealers means 320 Q customers per year are required to visit dealer.

Most dealers see less than 100 Different Q per year so they can afford 1/3 of a tech as an expert.

$60,000 gross [including parts] is not much of a business. A tech alone better do $40,000 per month or he is gone.

I think members need to take time and get MBA/ Finance /Accounting and dealership experience.

Yes to all above. Previously until about 4 years ago, there was only Infiniti General, where all the old posts are. And almost all the good ones.

We old members can tell when a new one is truly interested in learning to maintain their car because they will go back and read the old posts with the extra rich in detail discussions.

One can only repeat the preventative maintenance mantro so often to newbies whose first post is about how to chip the car, drop it two inches on Z32 parts and run dubs with a K&N filter and turbolator when they haven't even checked the oil level yet.

Understandably, since the last 3 (different) Infiniti dealers and last 2 (different)Nissan dealers that I took a G50 Q45 to typically made the statement of, "....this has a V8 in it? I thought it was a V6."

Needless to say, the door didn't hit me on the a** on the way out on any of those occasions.

Maybe you took your Q to the dealer after they fired the only people that knew squat about the Q45.

But finding a honest and knowledgeable dealer is like looking for an attorney with the same qualities.

I have been around since the Yahoo board around 2000 timeframe when I picked up my 1997. This is the second car board that I have particiapted in, the first being http://www.z31.com for my old 1984 300ZX. I cannot even rememver when i started to play on that board, a school kid from Alabama Morgan started it, mabye 1995. I saw the quality of the posts go way down until I stopped going on that board altogether. It was all a bunch of people that bought cars for $500 bucks and wanted "more turbo boost" and than would post that their engines exploded. In corrleation, I see more and more completely trashed Q's around in the Bay Area now. Nearly all the 1st gens are totally piles of crap with broken headlights, major dents and rust with paint faiding badly. The guy right up the street has a 1992a which I can hear squeak by the house, total pile. 2nd Gens are nearly always filthy and look well beaten but to me seems like alot of older guys (55+) driving them, so I wonder if they are alot of original owners who just sort of stopped taking care of the cars. Not seeing that many of the people that would be driving a car they picked up for 5k yet. Now, sadly, the very few 3rd gens are now showing up around town looking sader, I saw one the other day with cracking leather on the top of the back seat and the paint on the truck fading. Sad.

I have poured a bunch of $$ into my two elder statesman, my 84' 300ZX and now a 12 year old Q45 but both are mechanically 100%, both run as well or better than when new, both are completely updated suspensions with better tires than ever available when the cars were new. The Z is on the 2nd paint job (done in 1991) and the Q is original with 10 major details along the way....

That happened to you too?

I went to the dealer for spark plugs and the guy asked if I wanted 4 or 6. What the damn hell was I supposed to do with that? I'd understand if it was a younger guy, but this guy was old as dirt. He should have known better...
