it depends what you want to do with it. The main unit alone allows for 20% fuel adjustment in five different rpm points. For some people this may be enough, however the e-manage has a lot more potential. If you're looking for more engine control, a must for any boosted setup, imo, I suggest buying the support tool and an ignition harness. the support tool is a special cable used to connect the emanage to a laptop and windows based software. unfortunately, a simple usb to usb cable will not work. however, there are other options. Clone cables can be bought from either Gilligan if you need a usb to serial or from simon at [email protected] if you need a usb to usb cable (most newer laptops don't have a 9-pin serial port) for $55 last time I checked. The software, as well as any new firmware upgrades can be downloaded free here. The ignition harnesses gives you ignition timing control in addition to fuel. Note that Greddy also sells an injector harness used for additional injector control which allows for injectors up to 150% bigger than stock but since we only use two wires from the ignition harness, the remaining wires can be reused as injector wires. So you only need the ignition harness. There is another way to get this harness for less/free if you don't mind taking a trip to the boneyard. It comes from a 2nd generation RX-7 and it's used as a radio harness. Here's a few other tricks to making your own harnesses instead of buying at the marked up Greddy price. Also, If you plan on making more than ~240 or so hp, I suggest buying or DYI'ing (info on previous link) a 3 bar pressure sensor. Imo, it makes tuning much easier and meters up to ~29psi. Not to mention it's roughly the same price as a z32 MAF if bought from greddy or about 1/2 the price if put together yourself. The way it works is, once a certain load is reached (~10in Hg i believe), the emanage starts reading from the MAP instead of MAF. The ECU still reads off the stock MAFS for any closed loop operation.
