I've been playing with my friends GPS units (window mount) and kinda like knowing where the heck I am at... I'm thinking of buying one, an inexpensive ($100 or so) window mount unit.

This will be for my '96 240sx. I've looked at a lot of units on ebay, I'm sure I can find something in that range. They have Garmin NUVI and things like that, and also some knock off brands that actually look pretty good. I think I'm looking for a 4" screen at minimum, the 3.5 seems a little too small. I also don't want to take up too much of my windshield.

What do you have in yours? What did it cost? Is it worth it to you? Does anyone have one of the knock off units? I'd like to know how they work.

Just looking for some ideas. Thanks.

I bought the Pioneer AVIC S1 a few years ago and love it. I picked that one because it was the best deal I could find for one with a Bluetooth speakerphone.

I would recommend getting one. I held out for years with the idea that I wanted an in-dash unit - and I'll probably still get one - but I would still want a portable one for when I travel...

There's nothing like being able to scope out where you want to go on the laptop in a hotel and then plug in the address and drive there like a local!

It looks like a good unit. I have a handheld GPS already from garmin, but it's not so accurate (old maps) and has a very small b&w screen. But being able to take it out and walk with it from the car is perfect!

Anyone every try one of these:

On Ebay

They seem ok, but I don't like buying electronics I have never touched...

I would steer you toward the name brands just so you would be able to get map updates if you wanted them.
