Dearborn is not that far away, infinityman! Welcome to our outpost.

1.) Premium. Engine will not live very long. Regular and plus only for emergency use. Several posts on this board.

2.) Sounds like you are not waiting for your car to reach operating temperature before you ....ummm...operate it. Tell us more about maintenance history and ATF white paper towel test.

3.) Is it still in Drive?

91+ octane or better!

How well have you maintained the transmission with fluid and filter changes?

Welcome to NICO

Compare cars ATF to original ATF on a white paper towel. Color degradation is an indicator of ATF degradation.

If it jerks in Drive when you blip the throttle, well...it should. If you mean the rpm climb before the transmission engages, then you need to start saving for an OEM rebuilt one.

Well, at least allocating for it down the road.

Spend some time reading all the posts by Q45tech. You will have a much better handle on how to maintain your Q45. Most new owners start with new filters and fluids for a baseline.

What we are trying to tell you is if you think you are having issues with your transmission then take a look at the condition of the fluid and change it and the filter if necessary. Since you just bought the car, you need to do the same to all your fluids.

Are your hesitation issues transmission related or engine related? From your description it could be a MAF or fuel problem.

For the most part your questions are answered by searching and reading posts. Without looking at your car we can only post guesses. Do some searching and reading and try and narrow down your problem so we can help. Good Luck.

Reading the posts will help you in diagnosing your cars behavior and asking the correct questions. Problems are solved by eliminating failure points - usually deferred maintenance. More than 2 or 3 concurrent problems can make a car virtually undiagnosable over the internet.

One thing for sure, super unleaded only, there is no value in running lower grade.

use anything less that Supreme (PREMIUM or SUPER) ... just go ahead and say bye bye fuel pump.... And say Welcome to a junk load of other problems including the fuel Pump. First things... if the car is giving you probs like that , id suggest using your best knowledge. If you dont have a best knowledge, take it to a well trust and CERTIFIED q45 mechanic. Even if it has to go to dealer. Find out all your problems and knock out the major ones once and for all.. Because if you come in here playing the guessing game, then you're not helping the car none. Ive seen Q's just die becuase of not geting things checked out FULLY!!!

Many instances of new members not doing the correct procedures in evaluating the car before they buy, or not updating the deferred maintenence immediately after buying it, or even both.

Seldom a good or inexpensive conclusion.

If it says premium, run premium. Don't listen to what anyone else may say. Detonation (ping/knock) can destroy an engine like the VH45DE in a matter of seconds if severe enough under the right conditions - and the lower the octane, the more likely you are to get detonation. Running premium is NOT that bad. I did it for years with my turbo Volvos, and I certainly don't make six figures. Sometimes I fill my 240DL up with premium out of habit.

As for cold start issues - just go out and start it 10 minutes early so it warms up. Again, I did this for years with my turbo Volvos. Most cars are much happier at normal operating temperature, and this is pronounced in the winter.

NEVER RUN ANYTHING BUT HIGH GRADE PREMIUM.
