I would say its negligible. But howard, your G can deal with 87. As can mine. But I refuse, as I want 260hp, not 251. And I drive hard, and when I got the car, the previous owner used 87. The engine knock made my eyes water, and I drove all day by myself and a box of tissues just to clean out the tank and fill it with 93.

Did you have to clean your throttle body when you changed plugs?Mine had to be cleaned of carbonI'm wondering if there is a difference in carbon buildup after 100k miles between using regular 87 octane and premium?
Don't touch the throttle bodies! I doubt the build up was from the fuel cause the fuel goes in at the head after the TB. Here in the desert everything is dusty always so yes mine were dirty.

The Nissan/Infiniti drive by wire is very very very very very easy to damage I strongly recommend not touching the throttle bodies.

Exactly!

That was why I had the dealer do the work on my G

With the 31 oil changes that I've done myself vs the two oil changes the dealer did and the savings from the use of regular 87 octane the money I've saved paid for the new plugs and throttle body cleaning. They also flushed out the cooling system. It feels like a new car even as it turned 108k miles today.

Howard, you are the perfect example of an Infiniti(nissan) driver. One thing you'll hear from many older techs is that Infinitis are made to be driven. They are drivers' cars. The more you drive them, the awesome(r) they are. Example: A tech put 40,000 miles per year on his 2002 QX4. Changed the oil every 2,000 miles. By the time he reached 210,000 miles, he only did one thing that was because of failure. A cheesy little $40 cam sensor, which wears out with use anyway, so it happenes to every car with the VQ. There are many Q45s that come to the dealer (the F50 model from 02-06) that are quite popular with retired military/army guys for some reason, that have mileage in the 100,000 range and higher. These things are still trouble free. Before my G35 I had a 99 G20 which my dad drives now. Other than normal maintenance and expected failures, its been amazingly solid for its 165,000 miles. Driven daily. Point is, I bet, if you continue, your G will hit 300,000 miles before something big needs changing.

Both gone. Now '04 G35 6mt

Post

Have been poking around the various sites that address G35s (instead of working as I should be) - JUST got my first - built a '93 SER with an SR20VE from Miko, but this old geezer couldn't live with the suspension I did. This past week became the very happy owner of a virtually flawless '04 G35 6-gear coupe. Call it my fourth childhood.

The posts on this issue on other forums have been as childish as the cr-- I used to see for the SER discussions. This one was reasonably conscientious, so here I'll stay.

Someone posted that in the same manual even with the same CR Nissan recommends 87 for the sedan and 91 for the coupe; and someone answered what I expected - has to be different fuel maps in the ECU. Only thing I'd worry about is shortening the life of the converter, but obviously, the one fellow who's run almost 140k on 87 suggests that's not an issue. I didn't see anyone come up to the plate with actual dyno numbers same car 87 vs 91, so seems to me an open issue. Someone else posted same fuel mileage 87 vs. 91.

The Infiniti dealer I bought the car from said they put nothing but 87 in everything on the lot, including the coupes; I have no data on what the previouls owner used. I only know this first tank of 87, will this afternoon see if 93 shows a difference to my butt.

THANKS all

So does the dealer where I bought mine.

How many here actually believe when they purchase a new G are actually getting a full tank of premium?

I don't!
