I've been back and forth between sr and ca, but I decided for a daily driver ONLY I'd be better off getting a ca and rebuilding it. But what would make it technically a brand new motor? Piston rings, bearings, oil pump, head gasket? Based on the previous "crossover" parts thread, I've got a list totally about $375 on rebuild parts. (The only thing OEM so far being an oil pump, piston rings, and bearings).

I can afford to buy a ca18 and rebuild, but not a sr and rebuild. What are the MOST important things to replace to make the motor last the longest?

1. Rod Bearings2. Main Bearings3. Water Pump/Thermostat4. Timing Belt

It depends on how many miles on the engine you get. Unless it needs to be bored out you shouldn't need new pistons. A new oil pump shouldn't be necessary, the stock pump it pretty tough.

If you're gonna tear it apart, a light rehone, new rings, bearings and a valve job should be sufficient.

Of course, you won't know for sure what shape the engine is in until you get it apart but alot of guys just run them as-is.

Ok, one thing I dont understand is for the OEM bearing it has grades 0-2 and it says that the grade must match stamp on block, but I was trying to order these parts before/at the same time as my clip. Which grade? It also says "Part And Price Are For Bearing Half", so will I need 4 or 8?
