How does one "blow out a cam shaft"? It sounds like you don't have a good idea of the components and mechanics of the engine. from your description there could be a million things wrong, and none of them are going to be cheap. One does not work on 300ZXs and get cheap. You may be better off selling the car for parts and getting something more reliable if you don't have the funds to keep it up.

Any VG30DE from a 1990-95 300zx NA will work for your car. You can also find this engine in 1992-98 Infiniti J30's, but you will need to swap out some minor parts like the balance tube. NA engines aren't that expensive and shouldn't be too hard to come by.

Just pick up a used vg30de with decent miles for like $300-500 and have a shop drop it in for a few hundred if you can't do it yourself. Probably like $1000-1200 without actually doing anything extra to the new (used) engine.

Sounds like you spun a bearing.....and now my question is, where were you driving this said 140mph? If it was on the streets, you get what you deserve. I may sound like an a**, but at 140, could have killed yourself and/or someone else. :nono:

Now that my rant is off, how does the knocking sound slow or fast? Is it coming from the top of the engine or the bottom? Does it knock rhythmically?

Sounds like 140 is a road not a speed. Like they've said you can get a N/A motor for fairly cheep I'd go that route rather than rebuild. You'll probably get the "while it's out" syndrome. While it's out you may as well.. that's where I've been since I pulled my motor.

I don't know of any shops that'll put these engines in cheap. As was previously stated 300 s aren't cheap. What may break when taking things apart like the efi harness could cost over a few hundred if the car hasn't been apart before

If you cant pull the motor yourself, it will limit you to other things that can be done. If you can pull it yourself then its a great time to fix a lot of things while it is out. All in all I would only pull it if you can do the work yourself, it will save you tons of money. Other things that you will probably want to change while it is out are oil pan gasket, rear end seal, core plugs, egr if bad, engine harness, water pump, and all rubber hoses. Dont forget that your exhaust, and trany will be out also. So think of it as a good time to build a reliable NA, pick up a beater and roll up your sleves, and keep budget and time in mind.
