I have a 1987 Nissan pickup. The engine blew up and I’m looking for a new engine to put in it. It has the 2.4 inline 4 and I’d like to put the same engine back in it but I was wondering if the newer 90s 2.4s engines would fit?

Just my opinion. I would not use a newer engine. When the newer engines were manufactured due emissions the compression ratio and the horsepower were lowered. The distributor are different and the sending units and wiring may not be the same. Some possibilities pull the head and if it’s good purchase a rebuilt short block minus the oil pan. Find a engine core and have it rebuilt. Find a donor truck. If you find a short block you probably need a core.
