I inherited a 1987 300zx from my grandparents-never been driven over 80mph, kept in a garage and well maintained, but the 300 mile ride when they dropped it off overheated the engine. Must have boiled over half the coolant, lines all leaking probably corroded a good amount of the enging. water pump bearing was shot and Im thinking of buying a whole new engine all together saving time so i can drive while i work on the original.

What engine has alot of power that would fit well? I want to get a turbo to, original was non, Id also like to keep original mounts. I havnt found a forum with Z31 enthusiests, I know this is a Z32 club, but any help would be great

Welcome to NICO. The only way you will be able to keep the original mounts is to swap the VG30ET in there, which is the Z31 Turbo engine. BTW, there is a "Classic Z" section here on NICO, so it has been moved.

none. only another VG30E will fit easily. The VG30ET will require a different crossmember.

Hahaha, kinda right the mounts are the same for n/a and turbo, but the mount locations are different. The RB series engines have the same mounting points also as the VG30E. The mounts are the same dimensions, but a different bolt pattern on the crossmember side, so you could use the vg mounts as I did.

I doubt he is talking about the engine mounts themselves, but rather the mounting points on the engine and in the car. Yes. Many different Nissan's use the same physical rubber mounts (isolators). But the actual mounting locations are usually very different.

As you're aware, the VG30ET's left side engine mounting location is a few inches forward of the VG30E's left side engine mounting location in the Z31 while the passenger side mounting locations are the same.
