Can I use the drivetrain (motor & transmission) from new models in my 1994 Maxima?

Welcome to NICO!

You could, but it would not be cost efficient. You would have to use the newer engine harness and computer; along with some major fabrication work. You'd be better off installing a turbo on the VE motor.

I think he has a '94 GXE with over 100,000 mi and his transmission died. It always happens with the the 3rd Gen. However a full rebuild or buying a rebuilt transmission and shipping them your core is your best option as no other drivetrains are a direct bolt on to the VG30E. I know a rebuild sounds expensive but if you cheap out and go and get a junkyard transmission, you are just buying yourself a time bomb. Although I am not sure, you might want to check out also the 94 Nissan Quest transmissions. I believe they were offered with the VG30E engine and they were FWD. Not too sure though and I don't have time to check now... I'm off to work. Hope this helped .
