After taking a look at the FAQ for RB20DET swaps, I'm still confused about a few things.

My RB20DET comes with a down pipe, will that work? Do I use my KA one? Do I have to use an after market one?

What determines if I need a custom throttle cable?

People using a tach adapter, haven't really had any success. Is there an alternative to a tach swap?

I don't have enough to spring for a full intercooler kit. Will a side mount suffice for daily driving?

I just really want to have all of my ducks in a row before getting the swap done. Any advice from you Guru's would be greatly appreciated.

as far as the downpipe. i used mckinneymotorsports.com. really great product and you can't be the service.

you don't need a custom throttle cable, you just need to mod the bracket. easy if you can weld.

as far as the tach goes, you can adjust it to work, not sure how. my buddy did mine. or you can use the skyline cluster. not a perfect fit but you can make it look good with some creativity.

if you dont have high horsepower goals, stock SMIC will work. i bought a do it yourself kit from cxracing.com and i love it. it was about $200. i just used a bunch of couplers at first but now i have it welded in to 3 pipes.

I hear a lot of speculation about the tach. Some say a fairly accurate reading (off by 500RPM) can be achieved by adjusting the screw all the way to the left. Others say a tach swap is absolutely necessary.

I'm starting to think sidemount will be okay for me too. It will be my daily, in pretty much stock form. I just hear so much speculation about how a FMIC is a necessity.

Yes, you can use the stock RB downpipe.Or if you have a Aftermarket KA one go for it.

But.... I would go for a 3" one if you have the cash.

Like he said just mod the stock throttle cable bracket.

"Adjusting" the Tach doesn't work.Do you have a S13 or a S14?SOHC tachs will not read anything at all.Send your tach to LS auto or I've heard guys were trying J30 and Z32 tachs. You can search that, dunno anything about it.

Yeah, you can rock the SMIC till you get more $$, just don't expect it to do wonders.

Make sure you change your Fuel pump & use the highest grade gas etc etc etc...

he has an s14. adjusting the tach with the screw will work on s14s, i've done it several times. you need a reference to adjust it against though, like a PFC, SAFC, aftermarket tach etc. i don't have experience with s13 tachs but from what i read on the interwebz it isn't as straightforward or accurate.

good Q. mine is a RHD so i have no problems clearing it. but um if it doesn't from what i see the only thing you gon have a problem with will be the screamer pipe. you can always re-route it if its in the way!

I'm glad you guys cleared the tach issue right up. I was seriously considering the black box solution from Raw Brokerage. I'm in the last phase of gather up the parts and getting them shipped. I've sored a koyo radiator, new hoses, two 10" electric fans and I got the Mckinney mount kit. Any other absolute necessities before I proceed? Thanks for the great feedback.
