We've been hitting the opposing candidates pretty hard here. Let's shift things up and list things you don't like or approve of the candidate you are currently leaning towards. Then list things about them you are unsure about and want to understand "the true" facts about, thus will be digging deeper (not from arguments from the other side).

Of course, I'll go first....

Dislike McCain:- Weak on illegal immigration- Is for Carbon Credit legislation

Unsure:- Healthcare- Abortion (political statements or really pressing for overturn of RvW)

I'm sure there is more I'll have to think about it some more.

Can we take it one step further & post likes, dislikes & unsures?

My only real dislike of Bob Barr is on a social issue, health care. He wants the government out of it and then wait for the marketplace to work itself out. He doesn't really address how people who can't afford health care now can get care in the meantime.

Likes will just result in grand generalities.

Example: "Likes: John McCain is awesome. He knows war policy."

So, Bob Barr, dislikes:

He once supported the patriot act. He says he regrets it and now wants it to end.

He once supported the Defense of Marriage Act. He now regrets it.

He once took a firm stance in favor of the war on drugs. He now regrets it, and now lobbies for the Marijuana Policy Project.

So I'm glad he changed his views, especially now that he is out of congress and has nothing to gain, but he pushed for some bad legislation in the past.

So you just dislike some of his stances in the past and not currently?

This is a good thread, and I agree that we should NOT post "likes".

It's important to analyze where you disagree with your candidate, as it helps you clarify your own views.

Anyway, what I dislike about Obama:

A.) That he decided to run in 2008. I think he should have let Hillary run with it and waited until 2012 or 2018. This isn't policy though, it's just a political decision that I disagree with. That said, I'll still support him.

B.) He isn't as Clintonian as I would like his his economic policies. He should focus more on deficit reduction and less on infrastructure investment as a means of stimulating the economy.

C.) He isn't angry enough right now. Seriously. He is coming across too calm in some of these interviews, he needs to get fired up. Palin is fired up, McCain is as fired up as an old guy can be. Barack needs to get with the program and show some more enthusiasm. He's great in his stump speeches, but I mean on TV, in interviews, where he's shown for a real amount of time.

D.) He supports too much firearms regulation. I am FAR from a 2nd Amendment radical, but I think Obama supports just a few too many firearms limitations. That said, he's much better about it than EITHER Clinton.

E.) He isn't enough of a free-trader for me. Protectionism hurts us all in the long run.

F.) He isn't big enough on states' rights. No Democrats are, and no recent GOPers really have been either, but I wish someone electable would be.

I might think of some more later. Good thread.

I'm going to quote Hash on a few for Obama, then add my own:

I add:

He's complicit with FAR too much revisionist history regarding his own experience, stances, and credentials - he's living in a glass house and throwing every stone he can find.

He's too much of a thinker and not enough of a doer -- I am afraid he'll get mired in inaction if he's ever faced with a crisis he hasn't studied for.

He's too willing to compromise -- he needs to stop trying to be all things to all people and just be a strong leader: listen, think, act, manage

I'd advise against it. Just let people post up on their candidate.

I really like John McCain. I wanted him in 2000 (oops, too bad for everyone) and I want him in 2008.

But then, I'm not really issue-oriented. I'm principles and associations and experience oriented. No President can do much on his own - it's the people he brings with him that make the difference.

I suppose I can fault McCain for changing his positions between now and 2000, but I understand that a politician has to get elected. It's nothing new or particularly bad, but I agree that it can be legitimately used by the opposition to make the candidate look unsure and evasive.

Believe it or not, I actually researched Obama in the beginning. I didn't know much about McCain until later this year. I was rooting for Huckabee, Romney, and Giuliani. Each had (IMHO) a special attraction. But they dropped out, and Obama seemed interesting... until he opened his mouth, and I researched his TRUE history.

How 'bout you try posting stuff with substance. Get on good ol' Google and find interesting stuff to show us. At least stop with the heckling, hm?

For instance, you could actually have posted what you dislike about your candidate, like the opening post asked. THAT might have been worth reading.

Barr:-Was a nut in the past-I feel that select aspects of society like health care and most infrastructure should be socialized; he doesn't-Not going to get 5% of the vote due to the "wasted vote" sheep

Nader:-Against nuclear power-Wants a speculation tax-Not going to get 5% of the vote due to the "wasted vote" sheep
