What doesn't work with the 8 step wiring?

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

First of all, is there step #6?

Second, those who have done the swap and followed the 8 step wiring, what components on the dash did not work? I hear the temp gauge is not hooked up, the tach and speedo isn't calibrated. what about the other switches on the dash such as dimmers, lights, turn signals, etc.

thanks

I think it's bout time someone did the whole swap, got it running perfectly with all interior accessories working, and showed us how to do it.

I would do it, but I won't have my 240 for a couple months..

nothing on the gauge cluster apart from a few lights will work.

that 8 step guide is only a bare minimum to get the car running. there is much more that needs to be done.

and there are wiring diffrences between a type 1 and type 2 RB motor so find out what you have.

How do I know if I have a type I/II motor? All I have is the engine and the ecu with transmission. Any markings on anywhere?

BTW the harness is correlating with the r33 wiring diagram from megala.com.

Kamin, can you provide any info on the wiring difference? I didn't know there was anything different about it.

xjon, the easiest way is to look on top of the plug cover, if you have an ignitor chip bolted on the rear of it, that's the series 1. AFAIK. There may be other differences but I believe that is the major one..

only thing i noticed was there is no ignition relay so no wiring to deal with for that, no switched 12v power needed for injectors or the ACV.

Well then I have the type I motor according to the ignitor plug on the back of my valve cover. I also have the ignition relay next to the eccs relay on my wiring harness close to the ecu. If you look at step #4 (I think) I have to wire the gray cord from one of the plugs to the black/red wire. I believe the gray is the wire to the injectors.

comparing the r33 wiring diagram with the ka wiring diagram (fsm). On the KA, there is a wire (g/y) going to the rear window defogger relay (it's on the brown plug step#3). Does anybody have a working defogger, or what wire should I splice this into? this wire leads back to the KA ecu pin #44

Also from that brown plug, the l/g wire goes to the "thermo control amplifier" which I believe is the temperature controls on the center console. Does this not work after the swap also? BTW this wire leads back to the KA ecu pin #41.

I believe the heads up display with the electronic speedo will work in my case. Does anybody have this not working after the 8 step with electronic speedo and HUD.

Also in addition to the 8 step, my speculation is to attach pin #32 from the RB ecu which is the r/w wire from the white plug to the r wire from the KA brown plug in step #3. I believe this will work the check engine light on the dash. Please tell me if I'm doing something unnecessary. Will the check engine light work anyways if I don't do this?

What I'm trying to do here is to figure out what wires I can plug/splice together at one time during the install so I don't have to keep going back and forth peeling electrical tape over and over again.

thanksBTW I have a typeI RB25 with megala.com ecu info, going into 93 240 with fsm ecu wiring diagram.
