"Important to understand how the ecu uses WOT SIGNAL [at crank] to stop the batch fire process with cold coolant."

This was in a prior post by q45tech, referring to starting a flooded engine. What does it mean?

ThanksKen K

It means when you depress gas pedal and hold firmly to the floor while cranking engine, the ECU shuts off the fuel injectors to allow for clearing of fuel flooded cylinders allowing car to start

Wide Open Throttle, AKA "pedal to the floor".

To elaborate a bit more, you may have noticed a "click" noise near the gas pedal when you've floored it. What you're hearing is the "kick down" switch, which tells the ECU/TCU to downshift - that's the WOT signal.

Out of curiosity, are you asking in relation to your starter issue? When the engine is flooded, it sometimes washes the oil off of the piston rings, causing no compression - which could cause it to sound like the starter isn't engaged. I recall a service advisor at my dealership mentioning that they got a G50 flatbedded in from another shop with the starter in the trunk. They thought they had a bad starter but it turned out the car was just flooded. This was back in the late '90's when they still saw the G50 there.

We see a good bit of flooding during the winter due to the fact that the ECU sends a very heavy hit of fuel to the cylinders at startup. If the car is turned off too soon (e.g. moving car from one parking spot to another to let someone out of the driveway) then flooding results.

Damn, Heath, you caught me.... I made the mistake of not lifting the hood of the engine to see whether the fan was turning before I started that last post. I finally did this morning and, of course, it was, so I called and cancelled the started shipment. I had vaguely remembered a thread from a couple of years ago, so I searched and found it. Q45tech had referred to WOT, but someone else talked about depressing the gas peddle completely without pumping it. Lo and behold, it worked...

Jerry Tucker had told me many years ago about not driving the car short periods of time (less than enough to warm it up), and this last time, I parked the car after driving home from work, same as always (12 miles). I had left it sitting for a few days before trying to start it, when it just turned over with such a high pitch that I thought for certain it was spinning without engaging, which was not the case.... apparently either flooded or no compression... the WOT trick worked just fine...

Sorry to call you out but I'm glad you were able to get it up and running without spending any money that you didn't need to spend!

For 15 years more than half the Q45 that got flatbeded in were just due to flooding.............................obviously we found other problems.. changed oil.Next highest was fuel/pump tcuNext wrecks.....ac, rad, oil pan, curb slams.Incompetent owners causing other problems.
