what does that little box for that is right behind the coil. Does it have something to do with the brakes?

it's some system that I've heard lets air from the intake flow into the cat converter, so it heats up faster.

there was a post on this...

anyway, corn322 is right.

you can take out the box and buy a metal plug to block off the hole that will be left at the header or keep the metal piping with ruber hose and put a plug on the rubber hose. Taking out that box will not damage anything or throw any ecu codes. Trust me I know ;)

You may not want to take it out if you live in a state that does emissions testing.

He could just reinstall it for emissions though eh?

thats the AIV, it is basically a check valve that maintains positive pressure in the exhaust. It just happens to pull air from behind the filter.

It is emissions, but I had a slight degredation from plugging it, so I cut it and put a filter on the end of it and plugged the hole in my intake plenum.

(note: my car is a slow POS right now, so degredation might just be something else starting to fail....)

Well I don't want to take it out It's just that the car was sitting up for two weeks and I had noproblems with the brakes. Then I finsh changing the head and now my brakes are going all the way to the floor. I don't see any leaks but it feels like I go t air in the lines. Do you think the master cylinder went out just sitting there?

don't just plug up the box. you can plug up the hole on your header or manifold, but not just the hole on the box w/ the AIV still connected.

And if you disconnect it, remember to plug up the hole that will be left on your intake.

I'd look for cracks in the vac. line to the power booster behind the mastercylinder. If air gets in there you'd notice. As for the black box, I took it out due to a hole in the side of it and put on a simple breather filter since I still have my AIV. The breather also makes more sense to me since the box is completely hollow.Good luck.
