Lucky bastard!! We didn't have HICAS in the states.

HICAS stands for High-Intake-Cam-Activation-Sequence. It was first pioneered on the older Nissans like the Skylines in Japan. Super is just the better version of it. Now they have ATTESA on the newer Skylines along with Super HICAS.

Basically it makes your car ALOT more tuneable with a broader torque range, it is the VTEC of Nissans. ;)

yeah dude, what the hell are you talking about? VVT is nissans shot at a vtec type system not super hicas, which is four wheel steering....

Its not bad, its just that with drifting and whatnot i dont think you want it...

Oh, and ATTESA is an electronic traction control system used on GT-Rs

hicas is High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension, and it is 4 wheel steering. the "VTEC" of nissans would probably be VVT, and yes there is HICAS in the US.

on a sidenote, i don't know what the hell people are talking about when they say something about feeling the VTEC kick in. i've got VVT and you don't "feel" it kick in, but the car does haul *** up to the redline.

Okay, you got me, HICAS is not High-Intake-Cam-Activation-Sequence. It is 4 wheel steering.

And VVT doesn't really "kick in," it's a constant change of timing depending on how advanced it is. It's not like VVTL-I that toyota's have that controls timing and lift. Lift is what kicks in. VVT is fairly useless. Same with VTEC, it is lift and not timing, that's why you feel it. I think the new i-VTEC may control timing too, don't quote me though.

well, you cant really feel vtec on a honda kick in like say, an instant shot of nitrous(a small one)

but like they have in their sig's in honda bbs's

"the fun starts at 5300"

the cars dont feel like they are moving untill it activates. the early vtec's are single stage, the newer vtec's are 2 stage, and i-vtec is 3 stage. it makes for a bad amount of low end torque, hell, even when activated, the torque is on the low side:rolleyes

but for toyota's VVT-i and VVTL-i, they are constantly variable as with nissan's version. you dont really feel it but you can hear it when the lift is changed(might be able to feel it a little) the timing is always changing, but the lift is what activates

Correct. I don't know too much about Honda's VTEC, but I have owned Toyota VVTL-I and know alot about that. The VVT-I is cool because when you are cruising it adjusts for gas mileage and when you step on it it adjusts for performance. With VVL-I it engaged at 6000rpm I believe, and it was fun, it felt like the car lept forward, but the cool thing is after the first shift all other shifts put you in lift, so if you were racing, the only place you didn't feel lift was 1k-6k in first, and just a hair in second because the toyota's designers didn't thing to make it stay in lift there.

I test drove a Prelude before I bought my 2000 Celica GTS and was not AT ALL impressed with VTEC. You could barely feel it, it was absolutely nothing special. the toyota had decent pickup before lift and excellent after lift. Plus it was fun having fuel cut in the celica at 8248rpm. The engine sings.

There's no steering rack there.. it works off 2 hydraulic cylinders pulling the toe links. If u want to see it in action while not moving, there was a thread here a while ago about putting the system in self-test mode.

Yeah as a Nissan fanatic i can tell you that Super HICAS is four wheel steering, it is found i believe on the Z32 chassis (90-96) and it was just a nice feature, it baisicly added weight. For all of you talking about Vtec, as an unfortunte owner of a vtec car i can assure you that it only comes in handy when racing civics, and passing 18 wheelers.

Toyota VVL changes cam timing, it does not change lift. The reason you feel a slight pull is because the timing advanced. VVTL-I does both cam timing and lift. I-VTEC is the same as VVTL-I. Early Nissans have ECCS which is small buttlerflys in the intake manifold that open up a full throttle. Now, Nissals VVL is like Toyotas VVL, and NEO VVL is like VTEC but better.
