Probably a noob question, but I'm chasing an electrical gremlin. I'm getting a code 54 at the ECU, and a code C from the TCU - both pointing to an open or short circuit in the communication between the ECU and TCU. According to the service manual, there are two splices located at M93 and F51. I've found M93 in the manual and it looks like it's buried way up behind the instrument cluster. Not sure about F51 yet.

Anyhow, I need to check continuity between ECU ant TCU Connectors first, but assuming that's bad I'll need to find and figure out these splices. So what is a splice in Nissan-ese - a connector, or some sort of soldered or permanent connection buried in the harness?

It's a permanent connection buried in the harness. It would be called a "joint connector" if it was a regular connector with buses.

Hmm. Well, we'll see. More tomorrow hopefully. This transmission is throwing a variety of random codes, but this is the most consistent one, so I'm starting there. The rest of them are all solenoids that go through the same (probably oil blowback soaked) connector under the car, so I'm hoping this is nothing fatal. I can't imagine where I'd get a transmission for this car at this point.

Turns out they meant connections, not splices. I'm not sure where I got the term "splice" from. Anyhow, these connections look like I may have to remove the dash to get to it. Any advice on getting there? I can see M95 Fine, then it's just the fan motor looking at me. Maybe I can take the fan housing out and get to it that way?

On the old stuff, the ECM and TCM were usually tucked up next to the fan housing, not behind it. It looks like those connectors should be accessible but you might need to pull the glove box.
