He flies the big birds, C-130... or soon will be, he's on medical leave right now.... but the perks are unbeatable, and an airline job is basically handed to you after 10 years if you opt to leave.
Listen to him Paul:
AF Pilots have it made:
They are pampered, dont have to worry about troop leading the way Army Officers do.All their maintenance is done for them by a team managed by someone else, their just pcik up their plane ready to go, whereas Army Officers are responsible if PPL under them screw up maintenace, if their units eqiupment isn't ready.
They dont have to worry about Logisitcs either. They just acept that their Bird is gassed up, whereas an Army Officer has to coordinate his supply and move out his company/battery to make the battalion log-raid or else..
AF Pilots have great prestige, yet they never get confronted with leadership issues like, getting woken up late at nite about private Snuffy getting into a fight, where as AF Pilots have "mandatory rest cycles"And they dont have the make the tuff call which one of two deserving men should get a good assignment.Or how to punish a good guy for an offence you simply are not allowed to ignore.AF Pilots are considered as real Officers and true professionals yet their responsibilty covers mostly their wingman and the misson, even when they have made Captain and get paid as such (plus flight pay!).And whose to say, Battle Damage asessment was right or wrong?Whereas an Army Captain may Command 100 men and will have to send men whose families he knows, to die.
Army Officers may live in the dirt with their men, while AF Officers often haven't seen the inside of a tent outside of a camping trip. And with the recent erosion of rank privilege Army Officers, may even have to worry about setting up theri own tent, after they come back from a staff meeting at 0200 while the rest of the company/battery has had hours to settle in, set-up and rest.
Sorry guys (especially Mike) just venting...no insult to our brother service intended.
