a cai is an intake system that places the inlet (i.e. filter) outside of the engine bay, thus it`s pretty cold compared to being anywhere in that space between the shock towers.
However, what most people frequently mislabel as a cai is a piece of metal tube replacing the factory plastic intake, the term for such a setup is a short ram (as in ram air... not quite, but that`s why you don`t finish the term with the air part) intake. Just call it an "intake" though, and nobody`ll be any the wiser about it.
ed: iForgot to tackle your computer problem, in the automotive world it`s called an "ECU" (pretty standard terms that you can guess at) and without a doubt it`ll be much cheaper to go to a dealer and buy a new ecu for a few hundred than to spend up to a thousand (or two) dollars on a standalone designed for an intricately customized engine. You could probably save even more by finding a matching obd system ecu from a junkyard, they`re usually in good shape as long as they haven`t been rained on. S chasses from 89-95 (mid 95, it`s like june or something) are obd1 and everything after that (which is mid 95 to 98, for those of you keeping count) is obd... wanna take a guess? 2. An added bonus to swapping and ecu is that if you put an automatic transmission ecu in a manual equipped car, you have no speed limiter, so you`re free to take it to whatever redline in 5th can get you.
Anyway, enjoy the knowledge, use it well preferably, and come back with your questions when you need more.
