What does Bullydog do? Is it worth it?

Warning... Dumb Question Ahead :poke:

I've been trying to find more info here on the Bullydog. I've found people recommending it and talk about timing, etc. Their site talks about it's features but can someone explain to a newb what this device actually does? Will it void warranty?

As some of you who have seen a few of my posts, you would get the picture of what I plan to put together, which isn't a lot at all. So far K&N intake and ordering the y-pipe. Added strut bar and will add rear sway + endlinks. That's about it. So with my tamed near factory auto, will this bullydog do anything for me?

Thanks!

How do u know its junk? Have u used it? Have you tried it.
Check out the bd tuner thread. I had the triple dog gas tuner and love it. It gave the car the same boost as the stillen header!

i have since sold it since i turboed my coupe but i was salty when i sold it and had to drive 3 weeks with out it

What kind of problems has it caused you so far?

I'm stunned anyone thinks this is remotely a good idea in 2010 with all the information available. Common sense still takes an occasional holiday apparently...

wow, so much attitude from someone who has been here for so long :rotfl

I myself dont have this tuner but have heard good results from others, without messing up the car. I'm pretty sure theirs a greater amount of members with positive results then negative results. so your argument of "common sense still take an occasional holiday" could be used against you. common sense is that if the majority of people are having positive responses then you probably have no idea what you're talking about.

like I said, I've never used it so I can't say good or bad. just dont like douche bags being a** holes for no reason....

"...majority of people with positive results..." just doesnt cut it for me.

The risk of aftermarket component install potentially causing ANY problems that invalidate factory warranty on engine / electrical for the potential benefit of modest HP gains defies logic. Plain and simple.

In adult land anyway.

Do you know what the tuner does? How about reflashes?

Where did you hear this - majority of people with positive results?
Did you do your own research?

Or are you just being a snob worried about affecting a warranty that you wont need or utilize

Hmm... What have I done? Let the beast of of its cage? :slap:

All I was hoping for was a lame man's explanation of what the BD is or does. If it meant for someone to fire off a link to a better past thread, then great. I tried to search and found some info but maybe I missed something. I'm not as knowledgable with mods as most of you are.

Sorry for getting everyone all rattled up.

BD Power Pup / GT Tuner work, I have used the Power Pup on my 2.5L when it was N/A. It certainly works. Premium tune, advanced timing +2 and removed speed limiter. It certainly gave the car more torque. This is not a "placebo" effect either. If you "think" it doesn't work, you should get one and try it, if you still think it doesn't work, then you're very stunned.

Indeed.

I bought a GT on eBay and I can say it definitely makes a difference. I did the premium tune and my dad was nice and filled my car up with regular gas(because I didn't tell him i could only use premium) so i had to downgrade it and it took what felt like for ever to drain the tank. my car was so much slower it was really annoying. the best improvements are felt 3k+ rpms for me but it does also help the slow start on the cvt. if you have the cash i would definitely recommend trying it

What's your purpose here? You popped out of no where. If you want to drive a stock car with a nice warranty then more power to you, just don't rag on others for doing things that "might" void theirs.

I've had the BD for nearly a year and had 0 issues and it is an improvement. More so in the mid-high range of the powerband.

And you can always restore your ECU to the stock rom. Even if you do some how manage to eff it up you can recover to stock from the backup file.

If you say the BD Tuner doesn't work, then I guess UpRev doesn't work as well? What a moron. lol.

Who are u to say it doesnt work and is a waste of time. maybe u have piggybacks and gas saver chips mixed up. do ur research before u troll.

i can personally say that the BDGT is deff. a noticable diff. it works almost instantly. the second u dl ur ECU as a copy, and go into first time tune mode, and set the RPM even, u watch ur tach jump up and u can hear instant results. u have on board tuning capability, timing adv etc. not to mention instant diagnostic code deletion. obdII readers themselves are 3-400 bux, where a deleter is more like a couple more hundo. this deletes and reads, no guessing, and u can mod w/ it with a road testing application. instant.

Skimmed over some of the posts, in particular the last pages. I must say I like what I am reading. A little confusing to me still. So basically it flashes the factory brain with a "tweaked" version of the software, right? It's like jail breaking your iPhone or hacking you xbox360, right?

Is this the bad boy that I should be looking at?

http://www.bullydog.com/product.php?ID=4

Pretty pricey but if it does what folks are saying here then it's seems like a deal. I mean, some are spending close to $1k for a cat back for only a few hp. Hey, don't get me wrong guys, a cat back is in my future too. Perhaps the nismo ;)

How difficult is it to install? Can I run the car without it plugged in all the time? Say I do my thing, tuned my car and pull the unit and left it at home. Will my car be ok without it?

Thx.

Cat-backs like Greddy and Nismo may cost $800-900, but if you really are money conscious and don't need to spend that much, I'd get any cat-back or axle-back and call it a day. I run a ebay cat-back that has held up for 36k miles which cost me a grand total of ~$300 from ordering to install, along with $330 for the Y-pipe including install.

As for removing the BD after setting your tune and driving around, I think it may be possible but I'll let someone with the unit chime in. Only thing is, you can't tune your car then your friends off 1 BD tuner. It is set up so you have to reset your car back to stock before you can use it on another vehicle.

I know this conversation is going off topic of this "wonderful" thread :lolling: but I hear a lot on this ebay cat back. I don't know what to search for on ebay. Would you be so kind as to direct me to this? I'm more than willing to throw down $300 or so even it only lasts a couple of years.

I was an early buyer of the BD Tuner. Still love it. 41,000 miles so far and won't drive a mile without the tune. Even my Nissan service mgr has one on his Alti and is a big fan. (I have more comments in the multi-page thread referenced earlier, and stand by it to this day.)

Yeah, once you tune the car, you can take it off and carry it with you, which I do a good bit. Don't leave it out in your hot car, it doesn't like it, lol... The only thing you might have to worry about is the HDMI cable it comes with, mine failed on me but those things are only $7 at the comp/electronics store so no biggie. As for the install, it comes with a manual and it's easy to install/reset to stock. At least IMO.

I'd recommend doing a google search for it or going to Truck Add On's web site, they'll price match I believe.

Yeah just search "altima coupe exhaust" and it should bring up a bunch of exhaust components, mostly cat-backs. Unfortunately, the cheap one that shows up is the $275 dual muffler Greddy type knock off. But the $175 one I have, with the Borla style single muffler/dual outlets, is not available. However I've seen it come and go as it arrives/sells out, so just keep an eye out on ebay for it.

Also I believe someone linked a $300 cheapy exhaust like mine but with better looking tips (I had to replace mine that came with the ebay system) somewhere on this forum, from some other website.

I have the Bullydog Power Pup (old school tuner LOL) and have it set on a premium tune along with a +2 timing advance. I've been driving around with this setting for 1 1/2 years now and no issues. I can defintely feel the difference especially after installing the Stillen header.
