Actually some of the Orange County and West Coast bikes can go for upwards of $200K depending on what you get. Custom one off choppers are BIG business, and I would believe the the $45K paint due to it being all airbrushed, and frankly with the amount of detail in the paint that's a lot of man hours for one guy plus I'm sure it's HOK paint and clear on it and that stuff ain't cheap.

Yeah, but it's not THAT expensive either. A quart is about $75, and they only used a few different colors.

It's all in the labor time, but even that is too expensive. It's a rip unless you look at the artistry aspect of it. Personally, I think it looks like sh*t.

Some paint can go for around a few grand per gallon. Look at the mystic green mustangs. That is roughly what that paint costs. Now, it would be pretty pointless to put that paint on something as small as a bike. Plus, a bike doesn't really require that much paint to fully cover everything. I'd be shocked if there is a bike out there that has more than about $200 in materials in the paint job (unless you're talking about adding gold leaf or something like that to it).

You have to consider that many shops use multiple layers of paint, too. But I really don't think that the materials even amounted to 1/8th of that job.

Oh you're definitely right. There's just no way. I need to see closeups, but aside from using a bunch of gold in there, I would guarantee it. It's definitely all in the labor. That, I wouldn't know how to estimate a cost on.

Sounds about right...

1) "This bike is a ONE-OFF Custom with free hand airbrushing covering the INTIRE painted portion of the bike."

I can't even imagine what the labor on that alone must have been.

2) Those colors are not cheap.

I'm a firm believer of "if it costs more than $10,000, it better come with at least 2 seats, 2 doors, 4 wheels, and a steering wheel."

That makes 2 of us. Id rather spend $150k+ on many cars or 1 car that are all ganna be faster and safer too.

I can understand having to break it down paint it and put it all back together. I watch American Chpper lol. Its just not worth it in my book, thats all.

Yeah with the amount of money they make on these bikes, you'd think they could hire a PR rep or something. Very part-time gig, 20k/yr cash
...or in this case, use a spell checker? Firefox has one built in. Two bad hit doe's ant have a graham her checker.

What I'm confused about is why you would even paint a motorcycle when doing a custom.

Everything should be powder coated!

Powder coating is actually pretty cheap... Didn't we have a member here that was doing that?

Yeah, and he had to be tracked down, still hadn't been resolved yet I think. I drove to his neighborhood, knocked on his door. He lives near Miami...

I know probably 5 or 6 artists that could replicate that "labor" for so much less than $45k its not even funny. Just because someone with more money than sense is willing to pay that kind of cash, doesn't make it worth it.
