Hey everyone, I work for a company that is going to start producing coilovers and we thought it'd be smart to ask everyone what they would want in their "PERFECT" set of street, and track coils. We would LIKE to keep the designs similar for the street and track, with the street obviously being a bit softer in the spring rates and the track having more dampening adjustably, but beyond that we'd like them to be fairly similar.

So, keeping that in mind, what would make a set of coils PERFECT for your 240 (s13, s14, or even s15)? Please include specific options if you have them like spring rates for cars with full trim, or spring rates for cars that have been stripped, etc. The more specific you are, the more we can tailor the suspension to the market!

Well i would have to say that the perfect coilover set for me would have to beable to handle the moutain roads and the freeways and some minor drifting TBH

i would be running full interior all pillar panels seats carpetonly cuz i like quiet cabins

i wanna be able to lay frame on only coilovers and camber to at least 5* all around at car shows etc

as for track would like 8.5k spring rate in the rear and 7.5 in the front i know its odd but it seems like the perfect daily/drift/touge set up

dampening i want it to be like rally suspension or like long travel baja but on coilovers (sounds really weird but you know how it is they leave the ground and hit with no rebound they just keep going)

like i ride in a few friends cars and its like a brick with wheels and its their daily its really not fun

id rather sit in a car that has coils like some of the vip made styles one car has coils and its not stiff like a brick with wheels it feels like air ride but isnt

im sure i have more to explain but thats what i think would be the perfect set for my s13 for me

GL Phil hope this helped

Here's a responce I received from a non-nico member (he was too lazy to register).

Quote »8k 6k springs 10-15way adjustablity monotube inverted front shocks, camber plates of course with pillow ball mount spercial bearing, boots on all 4 coilovers, on the rear ones poly bushings where they mount to the spindles. Maybe close rebound and compression changes when the dampening is changed [BRAND X] one have one or the other undamped and over damped[/quote]I think this raises a couple good points and differences from Track and Street coils. This was mostly more meant for the street coils.

Street:8k front6k rear10 way dampening adjustability (which would effect dampening and rebound)

Track:Harder springs front and rear15 way adjustability (where dampening and rebound could be adjusted individually).

Both:Height adjustment shouldn't effect spring preloadCamber PlatesPillow Ball MountsBoots on all 4

Keep the ideas coming!

From all the research I have done almost all of the lower to mid priced coils do not have proper damping/rebound valving (This includes the holy "Tein"). This has lead me to the option of building my own coils with Koni Sports/Ground Control sleeves. It would be nice if you could provide shock dyno data on the dampers you will be using. I personally am looking for a coil that will be competitive in the autocross/road racing area. Also what price range are we talking about here? A decent Koni setup with run around 1200-1500 depending on pillow mounts and such. Then you still have to build them. If you are able to offer a coil that is on par with this type setup for a decent price then you will have a winner on your hands. Has anyone tried to work directly with Koni yet? Love to see that someone else is trying to put a product on the market, just make sure its a product you will be proud of

Thanks for your input, we're actually going to the companies that make the suspension for such companies as Greddy/Trust, HKS, etc, so they'll be full coils, not dampers with spring perches welded on. Fully rebuildable goodness!

Nobody has any other suggestions? It's really easy to critisize after something has been made, but very difficult to make changes. Please make your suggestions before I start prototyping this stuff!

Thanks guys!

Alright everyone, I know this is kind of an old thread but we just ordered our first run of Garage Tune (my company/brand) coils, built using your suggestions! 10/8 spring rates with valving that'll support 12/10 (this is the track model of course), 12 way adjustable, and will dump lower than most other coils for the 240.

MSRP will be around the 1350 mark, but I want to sell these first 5 sets quickly so I'll price them quite a bit lower if anyone's interested.

I've already got 3 sets sold, and they haven't even arrived yet. Estimated delivery date is 7 weeks. At that point I can post pics and dyno results.
