I have been working on this little piece for awhile. I have now resorted to using JB weld. Here's what I did:

I pulled the two pieces apart.Cleaned both pieces with Acetone and then let them dry."Massaged" the JB weld into each side.Aligned the two pieces together "perfectly".Put it in a clamp and clamped it to about ~100lbsI added some more of the JB weld onto the suface and vibrated it in.Also, part of the hose sealing lip had deteriorated so I filled that in with JB weld.I let it dry for 24 hours.

Now here's the testing I've done thus far:

I placed the piece into a pot of room temperature water.I brought the water to a boil over a 5 minute period. (212 degrees)I allowed the water to boil for ~15 minutes.I then took the piece out of the water, with a tongs, and placed it into a bowl of ice water. (Extremely expansion and contraction test)Then I put the piece back into the boiling water for another 15 minutes. Then I let the water cool over a 30 minute period.I then took it out a dried it.

2 days laterSecond part of the test:

I was making a cake so I figured, "Why not place the part in the oven with the cake."I put the piece in the oven at the beginning of a 350 pre-heat.I then left the part in the oven for 45 minutes while the cake baked.I took cake out and left the piece in the oven while it cooled off for about 2 hours.

After all this, I examined the part for any defects. I could find none.

I then proceeded to use a rotary tool to "clean-up" the part. I sanded the hose seal lip smooth.

What do you guys think?

Very true! PMQ if you're that cheap get it TIGed. Sand/bead blast it first, take it in. Should be about $15-20, don't tell 'em how much a new one is!Believe me it won't last. Don't heat it up past 380f -it'll get crispy/anneal. It may have already, because ovens are very sloppy heatwise. (they just bracket a temp) When the guy/gal tries to TIG it he/she will know if it got tooooo hot. Then all you have to do is very carefully file the gasket surface flat and use a real thin gasket.

If it was me I'd find an unbroken one, way too important and hard to get to for cheaping out. The whole car/engine is at risk!

I agree with that..... It may last a little while (hour, day, month?) but it wont last as long as it should.. If I cant get you the one from my Q (should by next week) id try and find a used one.....

Of course I ate the cake! I don't waste anything. Now that I think of it, the cake did have a funky flavor to it . But I don't really care. I eat anything, as long as it tastes good.

You know, for the amount of time spent, even at McDonald's wages, that's probably more than a junkyard would've charged for the part.

Ignore the fact that there are at least 5 "parts Q's" here on the board to scavenge from.

Some people place no value on time. It's far more precious than money.

Actually, Greg, my time is not worth very much.

I only work on the Q in my spare time. Unfortunately I have not had much time due to mid-terms.

I am thinking about getting a bus pass. That would surely be much cheaper than even filling the Gas tank in the Q once. And I'd be doing my part to help the economy.

why do you always have to cut corners? Ur starting to cut corners on things that are important to engine life. Id pay the money to have a good working part as opposed to a new/used engine.
