i was just curious what you all think of your welded diff's. i personally love mine. i have had it for about 7-8 months. i ALWAYS burn both tires at the same speed. it works great for the drag strip (launching off limiter) and is so much fun in open places.

Most people don't grind down the gears some since they are hardened and this causes a weak weld. If done right, its a great way to save $$ and achieve the same results as OutToWinPAHC has stated.

Yeah and that diff shown above is a failure waiting to happen.

Thats a tach welded diff at best. This is what a proper welded fidd looks like, either welded or plated. The center should be solid.

not saying that wont work ^^^ but i used a 220 welder and preheated the gears first and the welder was cranked. i dont think its going to break. i have launched off the limiter too many times to count and got traction. i think if it was going to break it would have. also seems like your diff might cause vibration at high speeds. being that there is so much weight. and you better hope that your welds dont break cause that plate will come flying out of the case. i have seen that happen.

That's because both wheels are not fully lock all the time..

if that makes sense to you..

Did you say launching it off the limiter? I suppose that is the best way to test the product...

yes sir. with warmed up pressure dropped 235's. i figure if that wont break it then im good to go. im turboing my car here in a week or so, so we will put even more of a test on it. i am going to try and break it close to home so that when i am on a trip it doesnt break on me lol

There are two local guys who weld diffs local to me.

The first is Nick the owner of Elite JDM, and the other jdmwill. Ask either of them, they cant count the number of 4 corner welded diff they had to reweld. They both fill the center and are local drift legends.

Elite JDM is the largest JDM importer east of Cali with a huge customer list.

only welded my extra open diff bc i blew my r200 vlsd on the dyno, ordered a kaaz 2 way wating for that to get here, cant stand driving the car around parking lots on tires that cost 250+ a piece.

sorta $hitty, but i agree with teh launchign comment, with my dss axles i can launch the hell out of the car now w/o breaking cv's
