It's about 25 miles away from me, however the mileage issue and oil leaks cannot be ignored. What do you think?

The odometer discrepancy explanation could be true, I've seen stuff like that before. It's very easy to see if that's actually the case by running a carfax. The oil leak would concern me though.

Does have a few warning flags like can't read speedometer, odometer shows warning, wife drove for three years with "minimal maintenance".You'd have to look at it.

Contact seller and see if you can get him to bring by T3 [remember new Roswell facility] for a full examination [$75].

Notice the brake light out warning. At worst it only needs a new engine, tranny, diff, heater door, Misc, shocks, suspension, brakes for sure less than $11,000 in repairs............Chicago [injectors].

You cannot/should not bid without a full accurate list/costs of need repairs!

That would be one way to look at it!

The good news is that you're near the car and can look at. The even better news is the inspection at T3. If the seller balks, it's not a good sign.

If you're looking for a "return to OEM project", try and find one that's never seen salt/winter. There's rust in the pass rear door sill, which means there's more, as the drivers side usually develops rust first, on the ones I've seen .

No way would I bid. I've sent mail to see if he'd allow me to look at it and am waiting for a response.

Yeah, you noticed that too huh?

He proudly stated the "minimal maintenance" as a positive attribute "wooh...this car is trouble free".... then when it breaks down from lack of maintenance, they're ready to sell.

Seller's reply...

"The transmission leaks maybe a quart every 2 weeks. The power steering less than that, and the engine started leaking more in the last month or so. Maybe 2 quarts every week or so. "

Why low mileage, well maintained rust free G50 command so much.

KBB and others are irrelevant for cars in that condition. You will not make money buying one, but you may save some.

Drew, don't do it. It's got rust in the weld spot at the rear quarter panel (below rear passenger door). Mine is rusting there and where the rear bumper meets the rear panel on the other side. Almost bought this car just to swap out parts so I wouldn't have the rust situation:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...%3AIT

That's a common area for rust with most G50s.... although it seems to be excessive in this case. It's the other things that concern me. I may take a look at it just for kicks though. I'm really curious about the oil leaks.

LOL, I had a 929 with a bad valve cover gasket and leaking rear main seal (oil leaks are common the early Mazda JE V6). During one round trip commute, which was a total of 35 miles at 65mph, I'd have to add a quart. Thank goodness for Autozone and their el cheapo Valucraft 10w30.

My '90 Q had its rear main seal done at one point.

How about a 92 Nissan Sentra that drank a qrt of oil every 5 days or so. I had to park it at the end of the lot where it would pool up and not get noticed as much. I had to park at different spots at work so no one knew it was my car leaving those awful puddles. Talking about how good a new car felt....

Honestly that Q doesnt look bad... About average to me..... At least its clean minus the rust, which shouldnt be TOO hard to fix.

We just bought a pristine interior/exterior 96 Q for $500 oil light on, rattles and sludged with 129,000 miles this one will be an experiment. We are going to pull the engine out and see if we can save it.

We need Gerbles with brushes and mining lights.........where did I read about oil eating germs?

We tried about 4 years ago on a similar 96, welded a trap door to daily clean the oil pickup with seals and screws on oil pan.........it got traded as a down payment for a new Toyota Pickup.

I've owned a few cars with odo discrepancies, thanks to DOT/DOR mistakes. As a result, they weren't backed by the Carfax guarantee. Its especially common on older Fords where the odo only had five digits.

The oil leak is a point of concern. The rest is the typical Nissan leakage thats easily repaired with new hoses. I'd take it for $1700-$1950.

So beautiful... as you can tell, I have an affinity for red-heads.... Check out this a** shot!

front shot....

Owner's ramblings....

"Vehicle Description

I purchased my baby new on February 23, 1994. It came to $47,388.60 out the door. It's always been garaged and never in an accident. No rust anywhere. In addition to every conceivable option and power-everything (that works), this Infiniti has factory wheels, not hubcaps. There are two remote key units and two modifications I made the week after I bought the car. One is an ignition cut-off switch on the console, to make the car a lot harder to steal when parking in a shopping center (it has an alarm too), the second is a built-in top-of-the-line Uniden radar/laser detector. The control unit is right next to the steering wheel, the radar sensing unit is hidden up front near the radiator, the laser sensing unit is not noticeable by the rear view mirror. What makes a Q-45T different than a Q-45? The "touring" package consists of a sportier suspension and a tighter steering ratio. Add the traction control and this car is a lot more fun to drive than other luxury limousines. Yes, the air conditioner is perfect, yes the Bose audio system is perfect, yes, electric memory seats and everything else works perfectly. Even the big round clock keeps perfect time. The tires have better than 50% life left (although I'm not sure how you determine that). OK, so why am I selling? First, I have 7 (count 'em 7) other cars and my wife says, "enough already" (we only have a 6 car garage for 8 cars). Second, I'm 63, my wife is the little old lady from Pasadena (actually, a retired college professor), but I never let her drive it anyway. I just don't drive it much since I retired. Third (and please read this careully), it has 2 problems and a VERY minor third problem".....

...yadda yadda yadda and so on

That looks like a much better candidate, assuming you know there's maint that needs doing and pay accordingly.

Yeah...it was way up there in CT. Can't blame the purchaser for using buy it now. Seems worth it to me. I'm not really actively shopping for a Q, but I'll grab a steal if I see one yah know?

I wonder why that seller had his radar detector built-in all sneaky-like. it's not like they're illegal (AFAIK in his state), and probably took more effort (money) than it's worth.

now a built-in (hidden) radar/laser JAMMER...that would be marvelously devious
