As long as you dont care about AC or PS then an 89 or 90 should do just fine too assuming we are talking about a 240SX.

Ive never heard of anyone using Nippon Motors, but their prices seem to be run of the mill averages.

First time ive ever heard of nippon as well...and it looks like they only sell one kind of sr20det...which means they probably don't specialize in them so I wouldnt be too suprised if they didnt know much about them.

Personally after looking at their site one time, i would not buy from them lol

They don't look too bad, and at least they have a physical address, but as was stated before I doubt they can provide much information, or even that the engine is complete...

yah ac and ps are pretty important to me. thnx, i saw a really nice 240sx for under 3 g and i was gonna get it. i also read that the 91+ have dohc. whats the advantages of having dohc over sohc. and another thing. does anyone know of any reputable shops in the portland, OR area where i could get a sr20det engine swap?

okay reading through some posts now i have more questions. since when is swapping an engine illegal, and lastly, after a swap, the car wont beable to pass emissions test?

Engine swapping isnt illegal in many states, just looked down upon by the state dept of ecology. You shouldnt have any problems passing emissions if your car is running good.

I just failed my emissions test up here in WA by .1% on 1 of the 5 parts of the test (I easily passed the other 4 parts). Come to find out my cat was a dummy cat. So in other words you can almost pass without a cat and when i slap the cat on this week i should be passing without any problems. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Actually, it is completely illegal to swap in any state. Its just people only care if you are in an emissions area, because they're the only ones who check anything.

Here in Iowa I can put in a SR20, and its illegal but no one will do anything about it because there are no emissions, so theres no way to get caught.

In California if I put in a SR20, its illegal and someone would do something about it. I might get lucky and pass emissions, but I wouldn't pass smog or visual. That equals fines, now, if they happen to realize the engine is not the original engine/setup for the car, that equals fines and impounding the vehicle.

The Reason that you never hear about this is because people in emissions areas generally find a way around it, and people everywhere else don't care. : )

Theres another thread that EZCheese and I went over why its illegal, you should check it out.
