I think people's problems with electric is that they just plow into anything longer than a 5 o'clock shadow without trimming it down first and expect it to perform. Trim it down first and then run the electric without pushing it into your face, glide it across the surface. I get just as good a shave with my electric as I would with the 4 blade Pro Glide, without pulling, cutting, or ingrown hairs to follow. Your skin needs to adjust to an electric, the more you use it the better the shave.
This. Even when I have a 3-5 day beard, I just run the electric razor over it pass by pass until its short enough to start holding against my skin. The lady always comments that its a smooth shave.
I also think its a matter of WHEN you shave with the electric. If I take a shower and then shave ~20 minutes later, I get my best shave. If I haven't showered and just go for the shave, its a little less smooth, but by no means awful. Alternatively, if I try to shave as soon as I get out of the shower, it just isn't very efficient. Instead, I choose to eat breakfast and then shave after brushing my teeth for the morning.
A note I'd like to make- whether its a traditional or electric razor, plowing straight into a face full of hair results in pulling, tugging, and general discomfort. Occasionally I'll use the electric and then shower and put on some finishing touches with the Mach 3.
