drviing ont he street i hardly get past 4500rpms before i shift. by then im moving too fast. racing i try to shift between 6500 and 7000rpms. i have a built bottom end with a stock head jsut a valve job.

my torque starts to drop off after it peaks prolly cuz of my stock cams. it still pulls hard tho

hey structure I have a question approximately how much do you have in your current motor how much for the build up and turbo kit. not just parts either how much did you pay at the machine shop.

not trying to jack the thread so I shift around 4 or 5 in regular driving and somewhere between 6000-6200 when racing. i'm pretty much stock though.

Damn.. you guys drive your cars hard..

I shift at 2.5-3k... just enough to get into the next gear.

When I drive hard, I might take it up to 6.5k

stock redline is 7k, right? would you feel comfortable taking it higher provided the cams were making power?

Well, you'd need an ecu retune to eliminate that rev limiter..

Driving normally I shift around 2200 to 2500 maybe sooner. Yes it really hard to keep off the boost. On the street playing around with the locals I shift at about 6500 I will hold it longer pending who I'm racing. I shift at 6500 at the drag strip. Drifting who cares, I don't look at the rpms, thats what a rev limiters for.

wheres the limiter? but thats only when racing, right before braking, when upshifting wouldnt make much since.

other than that, 3-3500

when i get on it hard in 1st gear, its hard to shift to 2nd before it hits the rev limiter. the turbo just spools so fast and the tires break loose when boost hits and by then its at redline. im always bouncing off the rev limiter in 1st gear even when i try to shift before i hit it. but generally i try to shift between 6k and 6.5k.

Wow, you guys are a bunch of sissies. I run my car out to like 4500 on the street, thats where my boost comes on full on low boost. But then racing I usually wind it out to 7500ish. It only takes me a minute to change the MSD RPM Pill or the Revlimiter inside the ECU. My lowboost tune revvy is at 6500rpm and the high is at 7800. I do however love the sound my the MSD's revvy on boost.

Oh yes, I have a fully built motor. Crower rods and Wiseco pistons, balanced, I have a Port and Polished head, but the only think stock in my valvetrain are the valves...the other things are not going to be divulged

If I'm in town, I'll shift at like 2-2.5. On the open road, I'll shift around 3k. Racing, it really depends. I mostly listen for when to shift, but it is about 6.5k. All stock engine. 135K miles.

Why are people turboing their cars when they don't even get into boost most of the time?

When you get a boosted car, you drive the piss out of it. Then things start to break, or you just get used to it and drive it like a normal car.

At least thats my experience.

The po-po's don't like boost as much as we do either. Traction on the street isn't very good so you know...

I boost probably 1-2 times every 1 or 2 days. I boosted twice yesterday so YAY!!!

Samething for me too. I drove the piss out of it until it wasn't fun changing out parts in the middle of the night week after week.

Very true, something I think probably applies to most people who boost their cars. For me it was a combonation of both, I got tired of fixing **** everyday. Along with it not feeling very fast anymore.

In town I shift aroudn 3000, but if I'm boosting I shift around 6500.

I'm on a stock engine and usually go to 4-4500. racing usually only go up to 6500 in 1st and 2nd by then I'm ahead and go straight to 5th and laugh. Can't wait till I'm turboed.

shift at 5.5k when racing? even if the motor's torque output decreased as rpm rised, wouldnt the multiplication in lower gears make it worth to shift later?

Stock engine, daily driving shifts at 2.5k-3k. Pushing it I shift at 6.5k at the latest or once I'm going fast enough I shift to the high possible gear.

Internally, the engine is stock. I take it to redline everytime I shift, when autocrossing.

After my dyno, I did the math and the only gear that made since to shift before redline was 4th->5th.
