Now, since the car is running good, I was considering to wax/polish. I have never done this before. I heard people talk highly about Zaino products. But those are pricey too.

I am a beginner, I want to get something from autozone, walmart or advanced autoparts, OReily.I heard about Meguir products.

Can someone suggest what path to go? I dont think the car had a wax or polish by the previous two owners. Probably it has been 3/4 years without any polish.

Should I use clay bar, too. A step by step instructions for beginners would be helpful.

A good wash with Dawn Dish detergent will get rid of any wax that may be on it.Then Clay bar all surfaces facing up (Hood.Roof Trunk) Instructions are included with the clay bar kit I got at Autozone)

Then use a good quality carnuba wax

I'm a fan of Meguier's NXT Generation wax. It lasts a very long time and its a paste. It goes on easy and comes off easy.

I've also used Mother's Pure Carnuaba wax. It comes in a tin. It's expensive and requires some elbow grease.

I'm not a fan of using dishwashing detergent on car paint, since it does strip away some of the protectant chemical found in paint. Instead use a good concentrated car wash from either Meguier's, Mother's or Simoniz.

Get the paste.

I've actually used both the liquid and paste. The liquid lasts long but the paste even longer.

Wax in sections (finish one section before moving to the next-leave the roof for last) and do it in the shade.

Its also handy to have a quick detailer like the one Meguier's makes for hardwater marks. Spray it on, remove the hardwater mark than apply the wax, especially on the hood and trunk. You will get a showcar shine.

NXT is good stuff. If you have a dark colored car it will help hide some of the smaller swirls and scratches too. I like Zaino the best, but you can't buy it at the store and it's pricey once you factor in shipping.

Anybody use this?

Apparently its what the automakers use to wax autoshow cars. Its supposed to last a very long time due to the high amount of Carnuaba. I may get some to try.
