I am curious as to what each and every one of you look at on show cars that determines whether or not you think the car is truly show worthy. What are details you look at on a car that say to you " wow this guy really put some time into this thing"? I want to know what characteristics stands out to you and what makes you walk right past a vehicle. Thanks for your time and input!

when i think of "show car 240" I think of fiberglassed interior pieces and obnoxious colors. also more than likely a horrific modification to the stock taillights

I hate show cars, for the most part. The only show cars I really like are nice resto-mod classics or one off customs. The rest I think should be street/track cars. Import show cars are stupid. You can have a car that looks nice and doesn't have to be trailer queen'd around.

OP, are you looking to build a sick twoforteeee you can show off at HIN next to the Scions and Celicas?

If your going to make a show car here are some very important guidelines:

1. Don't be cheap/half ***. If it is cheap make sure you ensure quality. What I look for in a show car is matching lines, fender gaps, and such. Make sure everything fits better than stock.

2. Don't do some crazy *** paint job unless, from the general opinion, it looks cool. Don't get a cheap paint job.

3. You are probably going to have to build half performance (coilovers, control arms, swap bars, etc.) for eye candy, especially if you have exposing rims.

4. As for body kits, it's really up to you. There are some really ricey body kits out there. Personally I think the drift body kits that make 240s look like irons on the road, look dumb. Supermade made some cool looking VIP body kits. Just choose wisely.

5.Interior needs to be completely redone. Get new seats (s14 reupoholstered, s15 seats, or racing seats), reupholster door panel fabric, clean carpets. Basically make the interior close to perfect.

6. Last rule, make everything perfect. If you can't pay some who can. No one likes a half *** show car.

Cars are made to be driven, not to be trailer queens/show cars.

show cars are just plain stupid...building a car just to have it sit there and look pretty is stupid. Building a car and racing it is so much better IMO

Buy it, build it, break it, rebuild it

you sir are only half right. not everyone wants a ragged drift/race car. look at broadfields car. i think everyone on nico loves that car. hell its even featured in a mag, and numerous ads. that car has no bodykit, no flashy paintjob, and doesnt have massively offset wheels. he dd's the car, yet it would still win many a car show. you can build a show car that is still functional and clean. not every 240 has to look like its been beat to death

Your coming off stupid

I never said anything about building a show car, im asking what people think makes a show car stand out . . and IF I ever decide to make a show car (like hell I have the money to do that) I would be driving it to the show . . whats the point in having something nice if you dont drive it right?

If I wanted to know what everyone's thoughts were on showcars altogether, I probably would have asked that then correct? Im just curious what kind of fine details really make a car top notch

Flawless and evened out paint job. No dings or dents anywhere. Body panels and gaps should be even out through outh the entire car. Interior and under the hood should spotless as well. I should be able to rub my fingers under the wheel wells and not feel any dirt or grease. Pretty much the looks and cleanliness must be perfect.

"Show" cars don't necessarily have to have body kits and ugly-*** fiberglass interiors. I think if it's a fairly old vehicle that has been maintained and or restored to original OEM quality or greater, then that classifies it as a show car. My car is a good example. It's flawless inside and out, has one-off fabrication, also built for track, but is also daily driven whether it's rain or shine. When I was at Import Alliance last summer people didn't believe me that I drove it 600 miles to the show. Most just assumed it made its way down on a trailer. Now I definitely did not build it for shows, but I do take it to shows from time-to-time. I just take really good care of it!

Oh, so you did!?!

Dude I totally missed that. I read "you sir are only half right. not everyone wants a ragged drift/race car." Then skipped down to the next post and went on my merry way. That's funny.

You know what pisses me off? ****ed up 240sx that look like **** and half of everything is broken on them. What is wrong with having a clean 240 for DD and occasional drift day.

I see too many bad condition 240's.

for me a show car has had to have hit the wall/other person at least 3 times, like BH's old car. not being a nut swinger or anything like that but his car was awesome

because some people don't have the money for another "cheap" 240?

I'd have to agree. Most 240's on the roads are dented and half primered. I know 240 owners are cheap, but atleast look like you have some pride in what you drive.

Both of these are my cars. I found them both considerably "show" quality because of the time I took to clean and polish and clean more on them.

I think its more a matter of opinion. There are clean cars that enter shows, and then there are cars that are dressed outrageously JUST for shows. . .
