What do you like.dislike the most about the EX35?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Love this car, Perfect for those of us who wanted a G37/35 coupe WITH utility, Not many on the road, Unique, I hop Nissan makes them awhile. After I installed the Michelin Primacy mxv4 it felt like a larger smoother car. Great tires,

Only complaints
cup holders are too far back
Not enough cockpit storage.
Would rather have non 3 stage paint

Likes
LED interior lighting/parking light LED was a cinch to change,
EVERYTHING ELSE.

I love the look of the car. My baby is Blk/Wht with tinted windows. Even after a year and a half I still park it in the furthest corner or an end spot of a parking lot and always take a look back after walking away.

Totally agree about the cup holders and storage up front for little things. Those are about my only minor gripes.
I too park far away! not a single ding on my 2008. Still a blast to drive and I love not driving a car that resembles an a$s h0le! (eveyone has an a$s h0le!)

Dislikes (some are nitpicky):
-the standard halogen headlamps
-rear seat room/legroom
-untinted rear glass
-upshift/downshift positions in sport mode
-navigation command lockout while in motion
-Not many of them on the road (availability of parts/accessories)
-selection of tires for 17" OEM specs
-very tempting to drive too fast on public roads :) :shifter:

Likes:
-very tempting to drive too fast on public roads
-elegant styling, especially the exterior
-nice tech features, which I think are mostly well executed
-relatively easy to perform maintenance on
-Not many of them on the road (a bit of exclusivity)
-dealership experience so far

The EX is my wife's daily driver, and I liken it to her having an Apple product. I think they're similar in that they're stylish products that provide a pleasing experience for her as the user/operator. Being that I like simpler stuff and always try to look at things in a bit more depth and from a more pragmatic perspective, I'm not as easily swayed by what's on the surface; but in all I still think the EX is a fine vehicle. I kind of see it almost as a combination of German performance and Japanese reliability in this vehicle.

Except for the rear seat and hatch area room my dislikes are relatively minor. I can't fathom why the crossbars are not only fixed in place, but have only 19 inches between them, or why my $45k plus cuv doesn't have a remote hatch release, nor why I can raise the rear seats from the console, but can't drop them. The front seat cushions don't tilt forward enough, and I agree the cupholders are too close together; the lock outs and general command structure of the nav system needs reworking, and why can't we get speed limits on back roads as well as built in (non Sirius) traffic. I can get those on a $200 Garmin. The light in the hatch area is too dim, and how many cars in this class do not have signals built into the mirrors? I can get cooled seats on a Kia why not an Infiniti? What is up with the black stained wood near the arm rests instead of making it match the glossy maple (or walnut, whatever it is)? If you are listening Infiniti, how about an S version like the G (sorry Q50) has with adjustable seat bolsters, aluminum pedal trim, a few body and wheel enhancements and shift paddles? Better mileage, perhaps with the new hybrid system ported over would be nice as well.
What do I like? The power is good and with my R2C intakes has more immediate response, better midrange, and a satisfying growl when accelerating. The 7 AT is remarkably smooth and in DS mode both intuitive and fun, and I really like the little throttle blip when it downshifts as I pop into a hole in traffic on the highway. Even with the 19 inch low profiles the ride is extremely well modulated and far more comfortable than my G37xS was. It may not handle as well, but I like the road feel better. The stock all season Turanzas stick remarkably well, and there is just enough lean to make it entertaining to throw into a curve without worrying that you have gone beyond the bounds of all common sense. I thought the G had a nice interior until I got the EX. It is far more lux and comfortable and I think it is quieter too. The egress and exit is much easier due to the height and roofline, as well as offering somewhat better visibility on the highway and better ground clearance in the winter. I love the AVM and the music box, but do think 9 gigs is a bit light these days. I also like the Bose, eventhough I know this is not a universally shared sentiment. At first I thought the utility aspect was a joke, but after adding a hitch find I can use it to haul kayaks, bicycles, and even tow my single place snowmobile trailer, while still allowing reasonable room for some luggage and associated gear. Coming from a G I was not initially inspired by the design. It seemed too rounded and short, and rather soft and feminine looking in comparison to an FX, but is has grown on me big time. I get unsolicited comments with some regularity and I now really like the long hood, short roofline look. From the side it almost seems as much a fastback as it does a hatchback or suv, and the curves are really seductive. I also like it fore and aft, and those twin cannons below the rear bumper give it a hotrod vibe. The small amount of EXs on the road give the EX an exclusivity that is really appealing. But most of all I like the versatility. I can't afford to have a luxury car, a sports car, a winter warrior, a truck/suv to tote and tow all my toys, and a daily commuter. With the EX I have these all in one. And when the highway is clogged up and even my comfortable cocoon isn't enough to keep me crawling happily along, I grab an exit, shift to DS and find some winding, almost empty back roads that will get me to work at about the same time, but with a much bigger smile.

The nav lockout is one of my biggest peeves.
While the mileage isn't terrible, any improvement would be golden.

As much as we'd love something like this, it would probably never happen. The EX already sells in such small quantities, so I don't think Infiniti could ever justify a business case to bring out a special model like that.

If Infiniti put even half of the marketing resources in the EX/QX50 as they have for the JX/QX60 (as I've never seen a tv commercial for the EX), it would likely boost sales and might at least give the QX50 a fighting chance for getting a sport edition.

Very excellently put! :bigthumb: . What you wrote here about the EX's appearance is pretty much the way I have been thinking about the car. However, your written description painted a picture that is more colorful and detailed than anything I could ever come up with :) .

I don't like that you have to get a basically fully loaded one in order to have memory seats, which is the reason mine doesn't have them. (It comes with the touring package, unlike G's which includes that with the premium package.) Like others are saying the cup holders are inadequate. The scratch guard paint seems to chip way too easily. I average 17 mpg or less, which isn't very good. Rear seat legroom could be a couple inches better, but I knew that getting into it. Love everything else about it.

Hmmm. My 2008 didn't have navigation, cameras or HIDs...but it did have Bose and memory seats.
(I added a camera and HID's myself)
in 90% city driving, I get 19mpg. In 90% HWY driving, I get about 24. I have a couple small chips that the previous dumb arse tried to use touch-up paint to fix. That makes it stand out even more.
My teenage kids sit in back...if they ever ride with me. I don't care if they are cramped! They have it easy enough.
:)

well crap it sounds like it used to be part of the premium package originally, and then took that away in '11 I would guess. I wish there was a simple mod I could do to get it added on mine.

I agree. For the money and coming from a G I expected the memory seats with entry/exit assist and Homelink as part of the Premium pack and was appalled there was $2.3k added to my 2011's MSRP for them. I have a prothetic leg (motorcycle accident) so rather need the easy entrance/exit feature. But, I got a good deal, and since touring also gave me HID/adaptive headlights, interior stitching, power passenger seat, reverse tilt down mirrors, power fold up rear seats, that odd little coat hanger headrest, and the 19 inch wheels, I don't really regret it. You only live once, right?
