I haven't been able to find a '91+ with decent mileage in my price range, so I decided to settle for an '89-90. I found one for $2000 w/131k mi and is stock (a good thing). I'm a bit unhappy about the dull red color, but other than that it seems to be a good deal (actually being sold at blue book instead of over for once!). Clean title. Can anything be done about that black stripe running around the car?

I'd be giving up my '96 G20 auto for an '89 240SX manual... is it worth it guys?

sounds like a good deal. so long as its clean and has no running problems. other than a front end change you probably wouldn't notice any difference in performance either. i test drove(drifted, raced,u name it i did it) a few DOHC's and some singles before i bought my 89. all were very close. are u planning on mods at all? swap?

and that strip should be just a sticker. as long as its not under clear coat, just peel it off

i was planning to just do the basics over time I/H/E, and work on the suspension. if i could afford a paint job i'd like to paint it a charcoal or silver color... but from past posts it looks like a $3000 job, which could get me yet another 240. :)

i'd love to go for a SR20DET swap, but I'd like to keep the car legal, so maybe when the engine in the '89 dies, maybe I can consider a DOHC swap... but from what I read, it looks complicated... not only would I be swapping the engine, but also the gauges and various other components because they're not compatible going from SOHC to DOHC.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Woohoo! I'm no longer driving mom's car! Well, at least I won't be as soon as I get a 240 and return the G20. :P

there is only like a 15 hp diff in stock sohc vs dohc but i think it is pricey, I just got mine, it's got only 74000, and it's a 1990 coupe with sohc, but i still would like the sr20det, just for fun!!!!

Aside from this red '89 w/131k miles, I have a shot at a black '89 w/180k but with a new head for $2200. I think $2200 is too high, does a new head make that much of a difference? I don't know too much about the components of an engine to make the call. If the owner of the black '89 is willing to drop the price, what price do you think is fair? And would it then compare well against the red '89?

look at this litttle research i did on nada, and the it may help you decide what to pay.180000 mi

131000

less miles is going to help with mods, but if you get either one, I would go for a tune up and mabey a rebuild if not new engine if you are serious about going fast.

does anyone have an idea of how much it would cost to rebuild the existing engine or replace it with a lower mileaged KA24E? i'm not prepared financially to do any major swaps...

thanks for the responses guys! i feel like i'm at the home stretch!

i've seen ka24e's for 200-500 depending on condition. i am looking into swap or rebiuld right now and have a total price of about $1500. but thats a complete performance build. because of that price i will probably swap to a CA18DET. 1800 for a clip :)

The price is probably inflated because of the increase in the amount of tuners looking for them; or at least that's what has happened in N.C. I can still find 91-93 240's for 2k, but I'm going to expedite my buying process to get that price, as there are only 4 in that range within 500 miles of me posting on autotrader.

Good luck

BTW, can the s13 front conversion be done on the 89 and 90 models?

good find, but remember that the demand from area to area differs alot, and the prices have skyrocketed because of increased demand because of the increased coverage in the sport compact media, and the increased viability of the sr swap. I could have bought a 91 240 coupe a month ago for 1200, but that option was removed, likely by an ex-honda ricer, but also likely by someone who noticed the high value.

2:50, but I'm two months from my first day at UNCG, might as well be a bum while I can.
