Hey what do you guys think of these lights? I am working on a new front end for my car so thats why they dont line up perfectly. Since the new front end will require different brackets from the stock front end I did not bother with the fitment with the stock front but is just a matter of brackets.

If you guys want I can make some for you guys since I still have my molds. If you have any questions about them you can email me at [email protected]

Hows the lighting? You should make a mold like that for Mk3 owners. Ill get one if you do.

Ok I will try and answer all the questions to the best of my ability.

1. The piece I think you are talking about is actually graphite colored, but can be painted any color you wish.

2. I can get them to you guys in two versions, in kit form and in complete ready to bolt on units. The kits are for people that are comfortable working with basic electronics, know how to work with lexan or know someone who does, and can provide their own lighting. you would need to add the lighting, and the lexan covers. the kit form would cost approx - $250 US.I can also get them to you guys in complete units that you could just bolt onto your car in about 20 minutes, the majority of the 20 mins would be spent removing the old headlights. the complete kits would cost - $500 US.

3. The other headlight options that I found when looking for a conversion were the following, I have listed the reasons that I did not buy them and decided to make my own.

Ab-Flug/ Veilside- They did not have round lights and didn't like the way that the square lights looked with the 240. I also did not like the very plain design.

Eastbear - They did not come with lexan covers, which i definetly wanted. I also did not like the way that the lights stuck out over the hood line giving the car an overall froggy look.

These are jsut my views on these lights i hope i did not step on anybody's toes with these comments as they are just my point of view.

4. I can't really post any more pics at the moment as my car is in a complete state of disarray because I am making a new front end, because of this it is not very photogenic at the moment. I will make sure I post pictures of the car once its done.

5. I would love to make these for the Mk3 as well but I'm afraid i dont have a car to work from. Maybe one day tho!

6. The lighting on these are not as good as stock, They are not much worse and are better than most other cars out there, but they are not as good as the stock lighting. This can be addressed by installing stronger lights into the housings (HID anyone?) than the ones I used. I never bothered as I have been very happy with the lighting performance of these, and I drive my car 250kilometers a day, 365 days a year in CANADA! My friend that used to have an RX-7 with the C-west headlight kit on it says that mine perform better than his ones ever could! Compared to simmilar kits out there I think mine are very good.

7. once again the reason the lights do not match up in the picture is because I am redoing the front end of my car. The lights do line up but because of the temporary brackets that I threw on them they do not line up.

Thanks for all the intrest guys

I'm not sure why you want pics of the mold, or the brackets unless you want to try and make some yourself. If that is the case I wish you the best of luck, its not an easy job at all and not something that the backyard mehanic will pull off succesfully. I have gone to design school and do have conections in the manufacturing field and these lights still cost me more than what the AbFlug lights would have cost me to buy. That is not counting the three months of research and development that I had to go through to combat the problems that are prevelent in all the other designs out there (moisture, fogging, etc). I can offer you them much much cheaper than they cost to initially make since I already have the molds and research completed for them (that is the expensive part).

I am not really trying sell my lights and make a huge profit or anything, if I was I would have posted in the classified section. I just posted to get general input on them. If any of you interested in them though I will be more than happy to make some for you.

But if you are adament on making your own you are more than welcome to give it a try. Here is a link for someone who has made his own lights on an MR2. maybe you can get some ideas from this as he has listed step by step what goes into making his, please keep in mind that his are a much more basic design with no exotic materials, and will still cost you much more to make than mine will cost to buy.

http://www.mr2beast.com/Lights.htm

The method he used is completly different from mine as mine are made of composite sandwich construction (yes the same way they make F-1 bodies and frames!) so that they are much stronger and lighter. Notice that his lights are much more simple than my lights with no sculpting inside the housing, and they also cost almost 5 times as much! Also notice that Mine do not have any exposed screws holding the lexan covers in place as his does. These differences are very expensive to copy but important things to do as they add to the overall quality of my lights, and let you know that these were not something that someone just threw together in his basement to make a quick buck off of. These were lights that I built for myself for my car and have usd them for over a year of daily driving in CANADA (including winter) with no problems what so ever.

I will get more pics of my lights installed on the car as soon as I can, but it may take a little while for the reasons I have already discussed.

As i said earlier you can put whatever lights you want inside the housings as long as they are generally the same size as the ones that I have, you would just have to cut the filler piece (graphite colored piece) to accomodate them.

Once again thanks for all the interest.if you have any more questions you can email me at [email protected]

Oh ok, I was just thinking that maybe you wanted to try and make your own, thats why I put up the link since that would have helped you much more than just a couple of pics of my brackets and molds. I will try to get the pics up as soon as I can but it might be a while since I am working on a completly new front end for my car at the moment. I will try and find some pics I took when I was installing the lights. Email me if you want to see them - [email protected]
