There's a place I found where they would swap in a Redtop SR20det into my S13 hatch. It's going to cost $2500 and that includes the engine and also converting my auto to manual too. I think it's a good deal. You guys think it's a good deal?

I Think thats a great deal considering they get everything running perfect for you. You can bring it back to them if shyt is wrong. Make shore they are still replacing a lot of parts that SHOULD be replaced. ie- water pump, all hoses(behind motor), motor mounts....

I"m not gonna nay say and say that deal's too good to be true, but be careful. Ask to see pictures or the actual cars of projects this guy has done and check to see if the jobs are done professionally.

Also, put his name/shop name in a google search and see what pops up. If he's done some shoddy work in the past, you can guarantee a local forum somewhere has a thread or a post about it.

Just remember there are a lot of people out there who make great looking deals to rip people off. Sport Compact Car just went round the ringer on what looked to be a great and legit shop to build up their VQ35 for Project Z. The guy completely ripped them off and resold all of the parts they had bought and replaced them with subpar equipment without telling them. Oh and he closed his shop down but "kept working on the car" They found out about that from a reader who was driving along and saw Project Z sitting in front of the shop owner's house.

I'm not trying to be negative, but it's better to be safe than sorry if you know what I mean.

I definately prefer to do the swap myself but I don't have a garage or the space to work on it. But I definately need some testamonials before I make a decision. If everything checks out then maybe it's worth it.

That sounds way under the bar. Mine cost ~$3300 just for all the parts and I did the install myself. A redtop engine set is about $2000, add in clutch, clutch lines, pedals, s&m cylinders, exhaust, driveshaft, and a bunch of other odds and ends your already over $2500 and most shops charge around $100/hour for custom work.

Great deal if its true which it ain't
