its fun.

i dont do it because its "cool" or the new thing, or jdm or whatever bull**** is else out there.

its fun.

plain and simple. going 90mph sideways around a corner and looking to be completley out of control but NOT being out of control kicks ***.

you should try it. go to a local event and at least get a ride from someone. you will quickly understand why its becomming popular.

dude, TN is not like the boonies or something. there's SEDA (southeastdrift.com) that hold events around nashville, atlanta, etc. Traction Optional also hold events in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas (2 hrs from memphis). Kamin pretty much said it for me. you just gotta do it LEGALLY at an event and youll understand. freedom of making 75mph entry speed without fears of curb/trees is bad ***. consistancy is the key to drifting. once you learn how to connect your drifts, it gets even better.

Drifting is everybit as stupid as as spending hundreds of man hours trying to go a quarter of a mile.

waste of money are you serious? i hate ppl that say that crap, its not a waste of money......why do ppl spend thousands of dollars for just a lil bit faster computer when it will be outdated in like 2 months....why spend money on anything if its all stupid.......motorsports are not a waste of money, its our love, well i dunno about you kamin, but spending money to make my car just a lil bit faster is not a waste if you ask me.

^^Chill out, guy. Methinks Kamin's statement is in response to this:
McRussellPants wrote:Drifting is everybit as stupid as as spending hundreds of man hours trying to go a quarter of a mile.
In essence, the point I believe Kamin was trying to make was that hobbies/entertainment which are costly but provide no monetary return are, fiscally speaking, "a waste of money". Particularly, because only two forms of motorsport were highlighted as such. Of course, the practical value of something is in the eye of the beholder. Case in point: for one person, putting any rims on your car other than stock is a waste of money, as it is not vital to the car's functionality. To someone else, it's not, as they take pleasure in the aesthetics. See what I mean?

All in all, I believe this is what he meant without going into as much detail.

The point I'm trying to make is no one's car is gonna cure cancer.

Spending 1000 of hours building a car to travel a distance I could walk my fat *** in 1 minute is stupid.

Spending thousands of dollars on cars to drive around in circles is stupid

Spending thousands of dollars to slide around in a parking lot is stupid.

people who think their superior because their event is timed are stupid.

Its as easy as that.

Thanks for your opinion which, as you well know, you are more than welcome to!

But don't stop there! Please expound on:

- Paint for really old cars- Rims for cars that already have them- Performance modifications- Anything other than what the car came with, stock

Yes, putting any money into an automobile (other than fuel, repair, or regular maintenance) can definitely be construed as stupid!

Then wouldn't buying a car be stupid too. Because you could just as easily walk or ride your bike somewhere.

Well back on topic I have never drifted but I have been in a car while my friends was doing it. I like it because your driving sideways while still moving forward. Its great!!!

LOL dude ive poured more money and time into my car than you will ever understand. i have litterally HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS of hours working on my car. on top of that for a living i work in a performance shop. that means every day i make things faster in some way. ive worked on everything from a 1 million dollar porsche supercar to a 1926 bently so dont tell me you hate people like me. i am the person you come to when you want to make your car faster or have a question that cant be answered.

out of the thousands and thousands of dollars ive spent on parts or running events ill never get any of it back. so it IS a waste of money when you break it down. what are you gonna get if your car is a little bit faster? some street respect? whoop de do. gonna be a professional racecar driver? no. gonna make it into a magazine? not unless you have tens of thousands of dollars to spend. all car modification is, is a complete waste of money. i still have fun when im on track. and i will continue to pour thousands of dollars into my car in the pursuit of speed and excitment im just saying the obvious, all forms of motorsports are pointless OTHER than the fun factor. drag, drift, road racing, oval, dirt, karting, ****ing mountian biking. its all pointless but FUN. one day when you get a little older youll understand but at 17 you cant see that far into your own future.

excuse me if that was a little harsh but i dont appreciate when people say they hate me or people like me when they have no idea about me or anything i do.

Yeah kamin is right. Its definatlly fun. Its almost like trying to do tricks on a bike or skate board or what ever kind of sports that deal eith tricks...the point to do this is to see if you can pull it off and when youve finally laned it you get all exited and happy. The same with drifting when lets say u see a corner your thinking wonder if i can pull it off. Its just very fun to do. Just try and go out there and do. Try some drift evnts and see how you like it.

there is a few of us that drift in TN, its not as popular here though. me and a bunch of other guys from nash that autox usually go to atl ( DG Trials and SEDA) and to traction optional one in AR for the drift events. usually once or twice a month. the next drift event in nash will be in october i belive. as far as autox, well there is one every ohter weekend in nash superspeedway. go to trscca.com

as far as drifting.....well i love it. the best feeling ever. just goin sideways and the smoke behind u. its great. its def better to do it then watch it, but thats like every sport. i rather be participating then watching. i go to autox to be better in drifting. first u have to learn ur car and have some driving skills, what to do if something doesnt go right.

but i also like other motorsports but drifting gives me the best rush so thats why i do it.

Drifting is fun! it's amazingly fun I mean just look at my sig... now imagine you were the one doing a 75mph entry with all that smoke, the smell of burning rubber, the sound of your engine roaring at the redline... man it's a great feeling!!

Don't knock it till you've tried it..

+ "real" drifters are some of the greatest guys you will ever meet!
