Theres a reason they're great deals. : )

99.99999% of the time:

A) The company is in one of those Southeastern Asia Countires. The 500 dollars you pay for in shipping sends it to a port in America. Then you pay customs. Then you pay for shipping to you. Then you find out its missing pieces. : )

B) Same thing, only the company is somewhere in America. Everything else is the same except the initial cost is higher, and you only pay 500 for shipping to you. Then you find out its missing pieces. : )

C) One of the previous two scenarios, and then you find out everything is there, except theres something catastrophically wrong with the engine.

D) One of the first two options, the engine works for a little while, and then breaks down. : )

You won't get any money back if something is wrong, if you even get an engine in the first place because for a while there were major problems with people never receiving engines. : ) Which, if they do send it, can take months to ship and arrive.

Good Luck!

lol, daunttless tells him his horrible fate if he bought an engine off of ebay and then cheerfully wishes him good luck in ebay hell.

I've had 3 non paying bidders on my RX-7, IN A ROW on eBay. : ) People don't always come thru, even if they have good feedback. The only items you're probably "for sure" going to get are little things. : ) I'd stay away from large purchases on eBay. Plus, there was a real problem with eBay engine sellers earlier this year, lot of people on the boards got screwed by Asian and Canadian companies. : )

i wouldn't buy certain things on e-bay....motors, whole cars. Somethings you really need to go see in person. You can't get a good idea of what condition it is in by a description and a couple pictures. Besides, who knows if you are going to get ripped off. I got ripped off once on e-bay over car parts so i'd be one not to recommend it.

If it's an American based company, or a private interest and they screw you over, send em a lengthy e-mail explaining the penalties for mail fraud. They'll think it's funny, until charges are pressed.:D

Has anyone out there actually pursued a mail fraud case? I will be initiating one this week with the postal inspectors in my state, and I'm looking for tips. This is, believe it or not, an ebay transaction gone wrong. 1st one in almost 200 and I'm out $300. Local post office says I have a really strong case (long story). On a related note, can anyone recommend a good collection agency? I'm thinking of using this one: http://www.madagency.com/ They have experience collecting on bounced checks from Ebay transactions and charge 25%.

some dude was selling this radiohead cd with all these cool tracks live and acoustic and stuff. I figured it was some rare cd and since I like radiohead and don't have many of there cds I'd buy it. So I win the auction and the dude sends me an email saying how to pay him and at the bottom was a disclaimer saying that the cd was a cd-r (aka burned cd) and since I could just burn my own I just didn't pay and he warned me to ebay. Well I wrote him a nice little email saying that distrubting an artist work without permission is highly illegal and if he continues to bother me I will report him to ebay, capital records, and the police. The next week he left positive feedback on my ebay account :yesnod :evilhaha

eBay was respectable for a few years but now it's just a lot of trashy people scamming to pay their rent

the internet no longer belongs to the upper-middle class

really i think it comes down to the fact that, im sorry guys, you get what you pay for. ****, we'd all love to pay $500 for a shipped sr20det, but for something that technically precise and fine tuned, $500 is way too ****in good to be true. save up and get one from a respectable company you can trust; there are plenty of shops here in orlando that are dying to import one for me... id love to have one tomorrow too, but ill save my cash for one thats going to be worth the effort (and the money.)
