Lol! Those guys are here in town! I can just go and pick one of those up. I've talked to them and been to their shop. I know a few guys around town who've gotten their rebuilt motors. They seem to work fine, but none of those guys are KA-T yet.

The shop that does my installs said JIS is fine for stock work, but he would referred me elsewhere for engine mods.

I really considered them for a while, but know, I'm like "If I get a motor rebuilt, it's at least gonna have a metal or cometic headgasket and apr studs. At most, forged internals and head work." And JIS don't do all that. I think I'm gonna go to Duron for that.

Cant beat that price. Figure out what components they use and get back to us, that might be a really good deal.

On a sidenote, Cometic HG's and the like arnt worth the hassle unless your going for 450ish hp or more. Seriously, a fel-pro holds up great and have no extra machining work or processes to make sure they seal and hold. Many more stores about a blown cometic than a blown fel-pro, i can tell you that.

cometic=pita imho...

thats a bang up deal, a used ka online cost 3k

local shops(jax florida) want 3k to just do a rebuild. long turned short,if you cannot perform a rebuild yourself, this is pefect!

Thanks! I said 'cometic or metal' cuz I really didn't know which is best and that was really helpful.

You guys got me thinking about buying from JIS again! I wanna slap a JGS kit on it and try to get to 400hp

^^^ Hell yeah. With all these 'Stock Block 1,000,000whp' threads running around, I say lets do it!

I just gotta learn more about turboing. Some of the stickies are greek to me. I guess you don't learn some things until you dive in. Right now, I'm dying to know what does "a good tune" mean exactly? I mean, I'm sure no one purposefully wants to do a crappy one...

A "good tune" usually means that the car has spent some time on a Dyno with a wide band O2 hooked up, and a decent tuner tuning the air fuel ratios and timing.

A decent tune would be an ECU that is just generically made for cars with similar setups, meaning they aren't 100% custom. They are usually tuned to be a little safer, but don't extract quite as much HP as a dyno tune.

You would be a lot cooler with a Borg Warner s258.

Idk im trying to break the Ka-T guys on the idea that the Garrett turbo(specifically the GT-R) is the best option. Fact is, the borg warner extended tip has higher flow rates(more hp per psi of boost), higher HP capability, higher surge lines, and is rebuildable and cheaper than a GT-R turbo. The GT-R turbo spools between 100-250 rpms faster.
